Aldi’s Popular Pumpkin-Flavored Bisque Is Finally Back, and It’s Causing Shoppers to Clear the Shelves

Soup season is upon us, and while I’m excited to whip up a batch of my favorite recipes this fall, I am equally excited to try the specialty soups I’m seeing pop up on grocer’s shelves. Aldi has quite a few standby soups on their everyday shelves, including their fan-favorite Hearty Pea, Lentil Vegetable and German Bean, and they also carry Panera Brand’s famous Broccoli Cheddar Soup.

This time of year, they launch a line of fall-inspired soups, and they’re usually from one of their premium brands and sold in jars. This month, they’re bringing back the ever-popular Specially Selected Pumpkin Maple Bisque and Butternut Squash varieties, just in time for fall.

Aldi has launched both of these flavors in past years, with rave reviews, which is why we’re seeing them back on shelves. Each 24-ounce jar of gourmet soup retails for $3.89 and can be found in the Finds aisle starting September 10.

The Pumpkin Maple Bisque is made with pumpkin puree, maple syrup, cream, butter, onion, carrot, sugar, cider vinegar, garlic and spices. And Butternut Squash is made with butternut squash puree, sugar, cream, salt, spices, garlic and onion. Both are pureed until luxuriously smooth.

Past fanfare on social media tells me most people enjoyed the soup, which we’re hoping is the same recipe this time around. “I tried it and was impressed. Well-balanced and not overly sweet”, said one person. “It’s fantastic (and way better than tomato soup, in my opinion)”, stated another.

Some fans are even putting their own spin on the soup. “I’m thinking of mixing it with coconut milk and some red curry paste to make it a Thai-[inspired] pumpkin curry sauce. Has anybody tried something like that?”, asked one fan. “I’m heating it in the slow cooker, [and] added carrots and sweet potatoes. It smells good”, exclaimed another.

A few others felt the soups were a bit too sweet for their taste, while others enjoyed the balance of sweet and savory. And many fans served the soup the classic way – with a grilled cheese sandwich.

With the upcoming fall lineup in the Finds section at Aldi, I’ll be making a trip. And my basket will likely be full.
