Alec Baldwin is one of the most accomplished actors in Hollywood, but he wasn’t the star of the show in his own household this week. Baldwin joined as a simple spectator to his wife Hilaria’s debut on “Dancing With the Stars.”
Hilaria Baldwin is competing on the show’s newest season, and longtime cast member Gleb Savchenko is her partner. The duo performed to Jennifer Lopez’s classic hit “Let’s Get Loud,” and ABC’s cameras kept their eyes on Alec as he watched from the audience.
Those cameras showed Baldwin clapping for the dance performance, but he didn’t react with a smile. After the performance, Baldwin’s true feelings about his wife’s appearance on the show this season were clear.
Alec Baldwin’s Thoughts on ‘DWTS’
Alec made it clear that Gleb and his wife have his full support, as he even traveled to rehearsals to watch them practice.
“She’s a hard worker,” the former “30 Rock” actor said. “This was her life until she got injured so she’s just going to give it everything she has. I’m proud of her, very proud of her.”
As Baldwin mentioned, Hilaria was a dancer before injuries forced her to retire. “I used to be a dancer,” she told Savchenko ahead of their debut. “I had to stop because I broke my hip all the way through.”
Baldwin and Shevchenko practiced in New York City, giving her the chance to work on her performance while staying close to her family.
After the duo’s debut performance, they received great reviews from DWTS’ panel of expert judges. Derek Hough called it the “best Cha Cha he’s ever seen from a mother of seven,” while Bruno Tonioli praised the two of them for “using the dance as a conversation.”
Support From The Entire Baldwin Family
The couple’s children shared their support, and Hilaria’s stepdaughter Ireland dedicated a lengthy social media post to her debut.
“I wanted to take a second to talk about my step mom,” Ireland said on Instagram. “I think if people actually knew her the way I do, they would be quite surprised.”
Ireland noted that her stepmother “as had a far more complex and chaotic upbringing than she lets on,” and that her early experiences could be the reason why they’ve been able to bond.
“She didn’t always feel safe and seen,” Ireland added. “Sometimes, she is too loyal to a fault.”
Baldwin is joining the show for its 34th season. Other cast members include Olympic gold medal-winning gymnast Jordan Chiles, former NBA star Baron Davis, actors Danielle Fishel and Corey Feldman, as well as influencer Alix Earle.
Fans can tune in to watch Baldwin and the rest of the show’s contestants on Tuesday nights on ABC.
