“Alito” Moreno Cárdenas questioned whether divided as an opposition, the PRI and the PAN can be competitive against Morena and assured that the PAN members are afraid of the Government.
Mexico City, October 23 (However).- Alejandro “Alito” Moreno Cárdenasnational leader of Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), yesterday the decision of the National Action Party (PAN) of not continuing with his electoral alliance for the 2027 elections, something that he described as “cowardly” and that he assured would benefit Morena.
“Now it turns out that, instead of holding on, having character as the PRI has done; confronting this cynical and corrupt Morena government, as we PRI members are doing, as yours truly is doing, now they come out to whine saying that they want to blame the PRI,” Moreno Cardenas said before the media in the Senate. “Not at all, the candidate for the Presidency of the Republic in 2024, the candidate for the Head of Government were proposals from National Action and we were in a coalition,” recalled “Alito.”
Alejandro Moreno explained that PAN members fear being persecuted under accusations of corruption. “What cannot be is that there is fear that they will get two, three squeezes; two, three cramps, and they will say the real estate cartel and ‘we are going to persecute you’, and then they will back down, scared to death,” said the PRI member.
Alito Moreno continues to look for culprits instead of assuming responsibility. Now he accuses the PAN of “whining” while his own party crumbles.

“No, we have to move forward, we have to build in unity, we have to give results to the citizens and the citizens know that today the party that is firm, that is solid, that is opposition, that does not push us back and that we are not afraid, is the Institutional Revolutionary Party (…) Do you think that divided we are more competitive?” he questioned.
Moreno Cárdenas, however, did not rule out the possibility of being open to making electoral alliances again.
“The PRI is ready to compete in the 300 districts, in the 17 governorships and we are going to constitute not only a real option, the PRI is a firm opposition party, they do not bend us, they do not back down from us, they do not intimidate us, because we are not afraid of the Government,” he stressed.
In the midst of the worst crisis as a political party since it won the Presidency of the Republic in 2000, with former presidents Vicente Fox and Felipe Calderón who abandoned militancy, with only four state governments, with weak voting and with a national leader linked to crime, Jorge Romero Herrera, the National Action Party (PAN) began its “relaunch” on Saturday with its “divorce” from the PRI.
The “divorce” of the PRI from Alejandro Moreno Cárdenas was raised in the report of the PAN analysis commission, prepared by Julio Castillo López after the “cultural defeat” against the left in the 2024 federal elections, as part of a new narrative and the restructuring of its internal life.
