French survival thriller, The Devil’s Leap, has landed on Channel 4 just in time for a summer binge-watch.

The four-episode ‘fast-moving’ series follows climbing guide Paul (Philippe Bas) who ‘takes his antagonistic teenage daughter Sara (Maïra Schmitt) on a trek which pits them against killers after she witnesses a murder.’

The former special forces father must find a way to save himself and his daughter from the terrifying forces threatening to end them before it is too late in this hike-gone-wrong.

The series – directed by Abel Ferry – originally aired in France in 2021 and secured a second season.

Armelle Deutsch, Laurent Maurel, Yann Pradal, and Olivier Sa also star.

Good Housekeeping described it as ‘dark, pacy and exactly the sort of crime drama that’s worth carving out time’ and ‘exceptional’.

‘Binge watching the French series The Devil’s Leap starring Philippe Bas and Maïra Schmitt. The scenery is awesome,’ angelathompson5 shared.

‘An exciting [show] with beautiful exterior shots. It’s enjoyable to watch without being a masterpiece,’ Google reviewer Carlo Huss said.

‘I had more sympathy for the father; I thought he played his role as a climber authentically. So I really bought into him that he can climb. He carried out the dialogues with his daughter relatively well. Solid performance. The mother also played okay, but also played authentically,’ IMDb reviewer ilikeonlygoodmovies in their mixed review.

Although not everyone has had positive reviews with another IMDb user kosmasp calling it ‘decent’ but ‘predictable’. Others dubbed it ‘illogical’ and ‘far-fetched’.

You’ll have to watch for yourself to see which side of the fence you land on.

There has been a steady output of gripping thrillers on streaming platforms in recent months.

Over on Netflix, fans are praising the ‘chilling’ Baby Farm, set in Lagos, which climbed into the UK top 10.

Meanwhile, BBC thriller A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder has also made a splash in the Netflix top 10.

Over on Channel 4, The Devil’s Leap is in good company with Shonda Rhimes’ legal thriller How To Get Away With Murder dropping all six seasons.

The Devil’s Leap is available to stream on Channel 4 now.
