All the evidence against Charlie Kirk’s suspected shooter as he’s set to appear in court today

Tyler Robinson, the suspect who allegedly shot and killed Charlie Kirk, is set to appear in court today, and the FBI has released extensive evidence against him.

Charlie Kirk, the 31-year-old conservative activist and founder of Turning Point USA, was speaking at an outdoor event at Utah Valley University in front of thousands of students when he was shot in the neck. He was taken to the hospital but died shortly afterwards.

Authorities have named and pictured Tyler Robinson, a 22-year-old, as the suspected shooter and have released numerous pieces of evidence against him. Here is all the evidence against the suspect who allegedly killed Charlie Kirk.

Surveillance footage

Authorities have released images and reviewed video footage showing Robinson on the Utah Valley University campus on the day of the shooting. According to ABC News, Robinson was captured arriving on campus in a grey Dodge Challenger at around 8:29 a.m. He climbed to the roof of the building near the outdoor event. After the shooting, he jumped off the roof and fled into a nearby neighbourhood.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing someone in “jeans, a black shirt, a black mask” carrying a rifle, which matched Robinson’s appearance in released images showing him in a black t-shirt with a bald eagle flying across an American flag.

Weapons and ammunition

According to the Associated Press, the rifle used in the shooting was a Mauser .30-calibre bolt-action firearm, recovered wrapped in a towel in the woods. Investigators also found bullet casings engraved with messages. Investigators found a message on the fired bullet casing, which read, “Notices bulges, OWO what’s this?”  A second casing read, “Hey fascist! Catch!” Another read, “O Bella Ciao, Bella Ciao, Bella Ciao Ciao Ciao.” A fourth read, “If you read this, you are gay LMAO.”

Experts explained that some engravings reference online meme culture or video games, such as Helldivers II, while others, like “Bella Ciao,” are historically anti-fascist. Utah Governor Spencer Cox said the writings “speak for themselves” and suggested the messages were intended to be noticed.

DNA evidence

FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed that DNA matching Robinson was found at multiple locations connected to the shooting. According to Fox News, DNA was found on a towel wrapped around the rifle used in the shooting. It was also recovered from the bolt-action hunting rifle itself. A screwdriver discovered in the rooftop “sniper’s nest,” where Robinson allegedly fired the shot, also matched his DNA.

Patel said on Fox News, “I can report today that the DNA hits from the towel that was wrapped around the firearm and the DNA from the screwdriver are positively processed for the suspect in custody.”

Discord messages and written note

Robinson reportedly admitted to the shooting in messages to friends online. According to The Washington Post, in a Discord chat, Robinson allegedly wrote, “Hey guys, I have bad news for you all. It was me at UVU yesterday. I’m sorry for all of this.”

He also allegedly added, “I’m surrendering through a sheriff friend in a few moments, thanks for all the good times and laughs, you’ve all been so amazing, thank you all for everything.”

The FBI also recovered a note Robinson wrote before the shooting, even though it had been destroyed. Patel said on Fox News, “The note was written before the shooting, it was in the suspect’s home. We have found forensic evidence of the note and we have confirmed what the note said. ‘I have the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk and I’m going to do it.’”

FBI Director Patel described Robinson as having “essentially admitted, after the shooting, to the assassination of Charlie Kirk.”

Family testimony

Robinson’s father, a 27-year veteran of the Washington County Sheriff’s Department, recognised him from FBI-released photos. And he initially convinced him to turn himself in. According to the Daily Mail, Robinson later agreed to surrender at the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
