Almost 92,000 Pounds of Breakfast Burritos Have Been Recalled

A California-based company has initiated a recall of nearly 92,000 pounds of ready-to-eat breakfast burritos due to concerns over potential Listeria exposure.

M.C.I. Foods, Inc. out of Santa Fe Springs, has recalled several different lots of its frozen breakfast burritos and wraps, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced Saturday.

The company is worried about the possible presence of Listeria in the eggs used in the products. In total, approximately 91,585 pounds of burritos and wraps are covered in this recall.

“The problem was discovered when the establishment notified FSIS of a positive [Listeria] result in the scrambled egg component after the firm conducted routine sampling and testing of RTE ingredients from its external suppliers,” the FSIS announcement reads.

Consumption of food products containing listeria could result in listeriosis, an infection that can be serious in older adults, pregnant women and their newborns and people with weakened immune systems.
