Amazon Prime Video viewers don’t have long to catch up before Fallout season 2 hits the streamer.

The first season of the video game adaptation, which is set in a post-apocalyptic world, became the platform’s second-most-watched series of all time with 65million viewers in the first 16 days of release.

It’s no surprise that it quickly earned a renewal, and thankfully fans haven’t had to wait long for the follow-up.

The new season will hit Prime on December 17, meaning you don’t have long to catch up or give yourself a last minute refresher.

We won’t give too much away here if you haven’t seen it, but the first season featured the likes of Lucy (Ella Purnell), Ghoul (Walton Goggins), canine Dogmeat and Maximus (Aaron Moten) dealing with the aftermath of a brutal nuclear disaster.

Whether you’re fans of the games or have never picked up a controller in your life, viewers have been raving over the series.

‘As someone who’s not played the games but was aware of the lore and visuals of fallout, I was pleasantly surprised to be taken on an almost instantaneous, bizzaro joyride through an apocalyptic Americana,’ enthused @DominosthroughAgrate on IDMb.

They praised the cast’s ‘great performance running throughout’ and a fast pace to keep you engaged.

Others were ‘familiar’ with the source material, and it’s understandable those fans had ‘a mix of excitement and caution’ about the adaptation’.

‘I was genuinely impressed,’ wrote @MonicaM-80. ‘The world feels authentic, gritty, and lived-in, with just the right balance of dark humor and post-apocalyptic weirdness that makes Fallout what it is.’

That authenticity has been praised by gamers, who described the ‘accuracy’ to the world build in the video game franchise as ‘immaculate’.

Other fans were blown away by the acting, depth of the storytelling and the high production value, along with a story which is ‘slowly expanding’.

Fallout show really is a pleasant surprise. Described as faithful adaptation, although not a direct adaptation,’ wrote @Juri-571. ‘[It] instead portrays, fits into, and adapts the world of Fallout nicely and with quite some accuracy.’

Actors were clamouring to get involved for the new season, with Bethesda Executive Producer Todd Howard revealing how ‘a lot of people’ were interested in landing a role.

Just in time for Christmas, Home Alone star Macaulay Culkin is set to make a cameo, although everyone has stayed tightlipped about his exact role.

“I mean, look, he was a fan of the first show, and, a lot of people after the first season are reaching out who you don’t know were fans of it beforehand, or they love the show,’ Todd told Dextero.

‘The showrunners have done a great job casting, and there’s some… some surprises.’

The first season of Fallout is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video. Season 2 will arrive on December 17.
