American Airlines Unveils Major Lounge Upgrade in Charlotte

When it comes to airline travel, resting in a dedicated lounge is a dream come true while waiting for takeoff. American Airlines announced on Thursday, August 28, that they plan to expand the customer lounge experience at Charlotte Douglas International Airport. Plans for a Flagship Lounge, their nicest lounge concept, are underway.

The airline also hopes its plans for a Flagship Lounge will increase the footprint of its existing Admirals Clubs at the airport. Charlotte is currently the only American Airlines international hub lacking an upscale club for business passengers and AAdvantage elite members. With only two standard lounges often at capacity, a Flagship Lounge will be a welcome addition.

“As an airline, we’re committed to meeting the needs of our customers, and we’re excited to continue to invest in our lounges at CLT,” said Heather Garboden, American’s Chief Customer Officer. “These improvements will introduce a premium experience for our Flagship customers and provide more space in our Admirals Club lounges.”

Some of the premium amenities in the Flagship Lounge include champagne upon arrival and a local menu crafted by award-winning chefs. Travelers have access to comfortable seating, bar and dining, and villas for privacy with spa-style shower suites, workstations, and kid-friendly family rooms.

Charlotte Douglas International Airport is the secon largest hub for the airline connecting travelers to over 170 destiantions in 27 countries.

“Charlotte is incredibly important to American’s network,” said Ralph Lopez, American’s Senior Vice President of CLT Operations. “We serve millions of customers as they travel through CLT, and we’re excited to continue to elevate their experience when traveling with us.”

To have access to the Flagship Lounge, travelers must travel with a Flagship-designated premium cabin, or for AAdvantage Platinum and Oneworld Sapphire members on a qualifying long-haul route.

American Airlines hasn’t revealed exact construction plans for the new lounge or an estimated date of opening.
