An arrest is made after EastEnders revisits gruesome death from the past

Oscar Branning (Pierre Moullier) has been arrested following his attack on Patrick Trueman (Rudolph Walker) in EastEnders – as one of the soap’s most grizzly deaths was revisited.

Tensions ran high in the Trueman household following Oscar’s bold admission, something which caused Patrick to spiral.

He quickly began to suffer another panic attack, as the family rushed in to his aid.

Son Anthony (Nicholas Bailey) was furious to learn the truth, and Jack Branning (Scott Maslen) had to stop him from lashing out.

He was determined that the police should be involved, and couldn’t believe that Patrick was more than happy to sit back and contemplate his next moves.

But who did report Oscar? Here’s a recap…

What happened to Patrick in EastEnders?

Oscar become concerned for the safety of his family, when thuggish former pal Fat Mike (Tai Hilferink) threatened them. He would only stop if he handed over 5k.

Sister Lauren (Jacqueline Jossa) discovered his dilemma and returned early from maternity leave to flog a few cars and get an advance on her wages.

Later that night, she paid Mike off.

Of course, Oscar didn’t know that, and broke into the Trueman house to foolishly steal Patrick’s betting shop winnings. He was caught in the act, and in a desperate attempt to evade his identity being revealed, pushed the pensioner to the floor.

Who knew about Oscar’s foolish act?

The first person to find out was Lauren, with neither of the siblings aware that someone very close to Patrick had also clocked on.

Howie Danes (Delroy Atkinson), as the first person on the scene following Patrick’s attack, had Oscar’s ankle tag.

He later blackmailed them both for the stolen money. Lauren refused to allow him to manipulate them, arguing that he had absolutely no evidence that her brother was responsible.

Howie was determined to prove them wrong, and presented them with some evidence – the balaclava and clothes that Oscar was wearing when he committed the burglary.

At the end of last week, a guilt-ridden Oscar knocked back some booze and admitted all to his uncle Jack.

He faced quite the dilemma, as his partner Denise Fox (Diane Parish) is effectively Patrick’s surrogate daughter.

But she’d been in a similar predicament once before – when she became entwined in Keanu Taylor’s (Danny Walters) murder – and knew that she couldn’t allow Oscar to throw his life away.

Who reported Oscar to the police?

It’s not exactly clear.

The most obvious culprit would be Anthony, or possibly Kim Fox (Tameka Empson), who was suspicious of Howie’s lack of compassion towards Patrick.

Of course, she’s still blissfully unaware that her partner got his hands on Patrick’s winnings and used it for his own gain, or the fact he’s worried about Oscar going to prison and the truth outing.

Another person who has been less than impressed with his behaviour is Peter Beale (Thomas Law). He’s been determined to get rid of him ever since he arrived in July, and his decision could’ve been influenced by mum Cindy’s (Michelle Collins)…

In tonight’s episode, Peter turned to his mum for advice after learning about Oscar’s criminal ways.

She dripped poison in her son’s ear about how the teen’s presence has only made their home life more difficult, and how Lauren seemed reluctant to put her brother on the straight and narrow.

Cindy didn’t stop there with her meddling – she then caught up with Anthony and began to tell him about Oscar’s father Max (Jake Wood).

A low blow for her, given she was ‘dead’ when he lived on The Square!

She knows about Max’s involvement in her eldest son Steven’s (Aaron Sidwell) death, and reckons Oscar’s a chip off the old block.

Could Anthony have reflected on Steven’s death and reported Oscar?

How did Steven die in EastEnders?

Steven’s final stint saw him enter relationship with Lauren, before embarking on an affair with her sister Abi (Lorna Fitzgerald).

He subsequently faked a brain tumour to convince Lauren to stay with him, and when Max found out, he wasn’t a happy bunny.

After being manipulated into torching Beales restaurant to try and kill Jane Beale (Laurie Brett), Steven ended up trying to save her, with Max violently pushing him into a countertop as he attempted to do so.

As a result of this, Steven suffered abdominal injuries and later died in hospital, shortly after finding out that Abi was pregnant with his baby.
