He San Juan Park was filled with life and color on Saturday night, when locals and tourists gathered to witness the lighting of the figures that celebrate the Day of the Dead.
With this symbolic act, the Animas Festival 2025a tradition that brings together art, culture and devotion in a single space.
The ignition was carried out with the presence of the mayor of Mérida, Cecilia Patron Laviada.
In total there were 14 luminous figures that gave life and color to the park. These figures refer to traditional Yucatan trades.
Among them are a baker, a taquero, a seller of marquesitas, as well as tombstones and skulls placed both on the grass and in an arch that welcomes attendees, as well as a couple of mestizos that complete the exhibition.
The figure that caught the most attention It was a Catrina dressed in an elegant red suit, a hat with ruffles and large earrings. It is perched on a fountain decorated with skulls, vases and candles, and wears a shawl decorated with marigold flowers, becoming the center of attention of the attendees.
Exhibition in San Juan will remain open in November
The Mayor of Mérida, Cecilia Patron Laviadarecalled that the Festival of the Souls It is also celebrated in various police stations. Likewise, he indicated that the exhibition of the figures will remain open until November 15, from six in the afternoon to midnight, so that families can tour the park and take photographs as a souvenir.
Since their installation, these colorful creations have captured the attention of all visitors, and as expected, many took the opportunity to take a souvenir photo among the lights and the festive atmosphere.
During the lighting, directors from various municipal agencies were present.
Before the opening ceremony, attendees enjoyed a children’s show inspired by the animated film “Coco”, in which the little ones were excited to see some of their favorite characters. They even sang several of the show’s melodies, while some living catrinas walked among the audience, creating a happy and colorful atmosphere.
