Another woman went missing from a Royal Caribbean cruise, after Amy Bradley vanished

People who are just learning about the Amy Bradley case through the Netflix doc might be shocked to know a woman called Ariel Marion also went missing in very similar circumstances.

Amy Bradley was on Royal Caribbean ship Rhapsody of the Seas when she went missing in 1998. She was aged 23 at the time, and had been holidaying with her family. Ariel Marion had also been on a Royal Caribbean cruise with family, and went missing when she was 21.

What happened to Ariel Marion?

Ariel had been on a cruise with her mother in 2012 when she went missing. They were on a seven-day Caribbean cruise with Royal Caribbean, on Allure of the Seas. One evening, at around 8pm, Ariel told her mother she was going to the pool, and her mother decided to take nap.

Then, disaster happened. Writing on International Cruise Victims, her mother Verae explained: “Someone called the ship’s 911 emergency number. Sounding highly agitated, she reported that ‘something or someone’ had fallen from a higher deck and had brushed her arm while falling.

“Three security guards asked to speak with me. They took me to a secluded area, closed the door, but refused to tell me just what the problem was. They asked me to account for my whereabouts since I boarded the ship, and asked if my daughter was able to swim. At that point, of course, I realised that something had gone terribly wrong, although no formal announcement had yet been made.”

Verae said a search for her daughter began at around 1am. It was believed she had fallen overboard. But, Ariel’s body has never been found. In a further interview, Ariel’s mother said she believes “they could have saved my daughter if they had begun the search immediately.”
