April’s escape from Celia fails in Emmerdale with huge consequences

April Windsor (Amelia Flanagan) and her family are in extreme danger in Emmerdale, as they face the wrath of Celia Daniels (Jaye Griffiths).

Celia and her son/henchman Ray Walters (Joe Absolom) have been exploiting April and her boyfriend Dylan Penders (Fred Kettle) into working for their drugs operation.

April took on some drugs drop-off jobs when Dylan couldn’t do them, and Ray staged the drugs being stolen from her. This put her into Ray’s ‘debt,’ and she believed she was paying off the debt by doing more jobs.

Things took an even darker turn when Celia wanted April to have sex with clients in exchange for money. On one of these occasions she knew she was about to be raped by a man called Callum and she lashed out with a heavy object. Callum was knocked unconscious and April still believes she killed him – although he is in fact fit and well.

Additionally, Ray and Celia are using people who are living in conditions of modern slavery to work on Celia’s farm, and one of them is Bear Wolf (Joshua Richards).

With April having tried to give money to Callum’s ‘widow’ to make amends for killing him, and with Dylan realising that one of the people working for Celia is actually Bear, Celia is keen to clamp down on April and Dylan before they can get too much out of her control and threaten her entire operation.

Her plan was to separate April from her family and friends by sending her away, but as April got ready to leave she was intercepted by Marlon (Mark Charnock). Finally April managed to tell him that she’d been dealing drugs.

Rhona (Zoe Henry) and Marlon persuaded April to give up on the idea of leaving, as they were determined to protect her. Marlon wanted to go to the police, which made April eventually admit that she murdered Callum – and could face prison over what happened.

Then Celia arrived at their door, saying there was something she wanted to discuss. Getting a phone call from Ray, she propped up her phone – and to the absolute horror of April and her family they watched live footage as Dylan was run over by Ray.

In the wake of this, the family realise that they’re all in danger as Celia is absolutely ruthless and obviously prepared to do anything to keep April quiet.

In upcoming episodes Rhona and Marlon hatch a desperate plan. The whole family is going to have to flee from the village, which means taking April with them whether she wants to come or not. April feels like she’s essentially being kidnapped by her parents but she has to agree that it’s the only way to keep them all safe.

But as they make their final preparations, their attempt is thwarted by Ray, who makes it very clear that they are completely under the control of Celia and any escape attempt would be both futile and very dangerous.

As Jaye Griffiths told us, ‘April will have brought this upon her own family, this is her doing.

‘Celia warned her what would happen, and now this is going to happen. Celia doesn’t make empty threats. She just states realities and consequences, and the consequence of this is – now I own your family.’
