Are Israel’s actions terrorism? Plus, policing protests and flying the flag

Reader says Israel doesn’t care for ‘the rules of war’

Israel has bombed another hospital, with five journalists among the dead (Metro, Tue).

This is yet more proof that Israel cares nothing for people’s lives – not civilians, not women nor children, not journalists nor doctors, not its own hostages and not the rules of war.

No doubt its official statement will be (another) crock of lies. How can Israel not be treated as a terrorist state? Andrew, Hornchurch

Police, protests and political biases

TOPSHOT-BRITAIN-IMMIGRATION-PROTEST
This reader says police at pro-Palestine marches take resources ‘away from where they’re actually needed’ (Picture: BEN STANSALL/AFP via Getty Images)

If Julian (MetroTalk, Tue) is going to complain about police being ‘wasted’ on protests against asylum seekers, shouldn’t he be complaining about the hundreds called in to deal with the never-ending pro-Palestinian marches that cost millions to police and take resources away from where they’re actually needed?

Or is he simply denying the right to protest to those who don’t happen to support his political views?

And no, those who come to claim asylum should not be automatically entitled to work before being processed, as that would obviously open the floodgates to others expecting to work here, even if they have no claim. Paul, London

Under a Reform government, ‘safeguards for women would be thrown in the dustbin’, says reader

Nigel Farage is set to miss some of the first week back at parliament to attend the National Conservatism Conference in the US on Tuesday.

The Reform UK leader is due to speak alongside Steve Bannon and other extreme Christian nationalists such as Doug Wilson, who is not just anti-abortion but says women shouldn’t be allowed to vote.

Russell Vought, Trump’s budget chief, and Kevin Roberts, head of the ultra-conservative Heritage Foundation, which has been pushing to further restrict abortion rights, will also attend.

Reform’s disregard for diversity projects as a waste of money also erodes women’s rights. Safeguards for women under a Reform government would be thrown
in the dustbin. Dr Jayne Hamilton, Northumberland

Reclaiming our country’s flag: “If it’s only for racists to use, they’ve won,” says reader

In response to those getting upset at the English and Union flags newly flown around the country, it must be remembered that some councils have brought this upon themselves.

If a council removes or even discourages flying any flag you can guarantee hundreds will be flying it by the next week.

Our country’s flag is for everyone –
it doesn’t matter what race, religion
or sexuality you are.

The best way to stop facist or racist groups hijacking our flag is for as many people as possible to use it. If the flag is left only for racists to use, then they will have won.
Daniel, Manchester

Mind The Gap In London
Are you sick of the ‘see it, say it, sorted’ announcements?(Picture: In Pictures via Getty Images)

Like Sharon (MetroTalk, Fri), I am sick of the constant announcements on public transport. It’s the worst kind of nanny state overreach and has definitely had a devastating impact on my mental health.

There is no need for it we are not imbeciles or children. It’s about time the powers that be recognised that peace and quiet would make everyone’s life more bearable, especially daily commuters. Susan Healey, London
