“Wait a minute, wait a minute…. Doc, are you telling me you built a time machine out of a DeLorean?” asks Marty McFly. Doc Brown replies, “If you’re gonna build a time machine into a car, why not do it with some style?” The now iconic opening scene of Back to the Future is equal parts hilarious and thrilling with Marty eventually blasting back to 1955 and his parents’ youth.
This year the classic comedy turns 40. If that makes you feel your years, join the club. But how better to celebrate the passage of time than with a watch. To mark the occasion, Casio has re-imagined the CA500 calculator model worn by Marty (played by Michael J. Fox) in the film with a Back to the Future DeLorean theme.

A polished silver case and bracelet evoke the metallic look and angles of Doc Brown’s elegant ’80s time machine. The dial and the colors around the buttons were inspired by the DeLorean’s time circuit display and the case back features a flux capacitor engraving as an homage to the fictional technology that fuels temporal travel. Above the digital display reads “OUTATIME Since 1985,” referencing Doc’s (Christopher Lloyd) personalized license plate.

Like every CA500, the quartz powered watch gives the user a wrist-worn calculator, an alarm, a day-date function, a chronograph, and the ability to track dual time zones—though not decades apart. For collectors, the Casio comes in special packaging designed like a vintage VHS videotape. It will be available later this month, so keep your eye on the Casio site so you don’t miss out on this piece from the iconic ’80s movie.
“Roads? Where we’re going, we don’t need roads.” But we probably will need a watch.
