Of the country’s 24 jurisdictions, 16 elect only national deputies, while the remaining eight vote for both deputies and senators. The provinces that renew only deputies are Buenos Aires, Santa Fe, Córdoba, Jujuy, Tucumán, Catamarca, La Rioja, San Juan, San Luis, Mendoza, Chubut, Santa Cruz, Formosa, Misiones, Corrientes and La Pampa. On the other hand, Salta, Neuquén, Río Negro, Tierra del Fuego, Chaco, Santiago del Estero, Entre Ríos and the city of Buenos Aires elect both chambers.
In total, 127 seats in the Chamber of Deputies and 24 in the Senate will be renewed.
The day passes normally, but in a climate of expectation and tension. International media even highlight this vote as a “test” on the first two years of the Milei Government.
Today’s vote will also have an impact beyond borders, since the United States (US) conditioned part of its financial aid on the results and progress of the reforms, this despite the fact that President Donald Trump has expressed his support for Milei, whom he considered “a brave leader.”

But in addition to the political level, the election takes place at a delicate moment for the South American country. According to economists cited by Xinhuathe Argentine economy is stagnant, with high prices, high rates and many doubts about debt and reserves. There is tension in the markets, more demand for dollars and concern about the impact of the adjustment on retirees, public employees and small businesses.
Experts warned that the electoral result will influence how the market reacts, how the debt payment is faced and whether the Government manages to maintain order without worsening the recession. They also point out that the current stability is maintained with very strict measures, which may not last if the result does not favor the ruling party.
In parallel, Milei arrives to this day after having lost the provincial elections in Buenos Aires and in the midst of complaints of corruption involving close officials, such as her sister Karina and the former director of the National Disability Agency, Diego Spagnuolo. Deputy José Luis Espert was also charged with alleged money laundering in a case linked to drug trafficking.

President Javier Milei went to vote around 3:00 p.m. in the city of Buenos Aires and, in statements to the press, stated that “today it is decided whether Argentina moves towards freedom or returns to the past.” Furthermore, he insisted that his administration represents “the first libertarian government in the world.”
During the campaign, Milei asked citizens to “change Congress” in order to advance his structural reforms, and accused the opposition of seeking the failure of his policies. He also defended the work of his Cabinet, which he described as “the best in history.”
Low participation marks election day
Citizen participation has been less than expected. According to official data, as of noon 28.5 percent of the voters had voted, seven points less than in the 2021 legislative elections.

Although authorities reported a day without serious incidents, the pace of voting was slow in many areas of the country, with short lines and half-empty voting centers.
The first results are expected this Sunday night. Meanwhile, the country is experiencing a day of expectation and tension, with an eye on whether the ruling party will manage to expand its legislative representation or if, on the contrary, the opposition will consolidate a containment bloc.
