While many Generation Z students are already turning to AI tools like ChatGPT to facilitate their academic work, experts warn about the long-term impact of these technologies on the job market.
Rüdiger Maas, a renowned generational researcher, highlights that while AI can serve as a valuable tool, it also risks undermining traditional academic skills. Particularly in the humanities, where critical thinking and in-depth analysis are paramount, increasing automation through AI could lead to a devaluation. Maas suggests giving more weight to the oral part of exams in order to better assess the students’ ability to reflect.
Hartwin Maas, a futurologist, also sees the development of AI as an opportunity for crafts. He criticizes the excessive academization in Germany and emphasizes the advantages of skilled trades, which offer a stable income, good career opportunities and earlier independence.
