Ubisoft is being coy about Assassin’s Creed Shadows on ‘other machines’, which points to an announcement at a Nintendo Direct this month.
A Nintendo Switch 2 port of Assassin’s Creed Shadows has been rumoured ever since a PEGI rating emerged in April, but now Ubisoft appears to be teasing it themselves.
During a quarterly earnings call, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot confirmed the most recent entry had surpassed five million players (which is different to how many copies it’s sold) since it launched across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC earlier this year, which was described as being ‘in line with expectations’.
Guillemot went onto discuss what’s in store for Assassin’s Creed Shadows in the future, including the Claws Of Awaji DLC set for release in Q2 2025 (aka before October), and ‘new versions’ of the title on ‘other machines’.
‘On Assassin’s Creed Shadows, it had a very good start and we have lots of things that are going to come soon,’ Guillemot said. ‘We have an expansion that is coming before the end of the quarter, and we also have some new versions that will come to other machines.’
When Ubisoft CFO Frederick Duguet was asked directly by an investor if Assassin’s Creed Shadows is coming to the Switch 2 (via IGN), he was similarly cagey. ‘We haven’t said which other games will come on the console for that coming year,’ he replied, referring to the current fiscal year which concludes at the end of March 2026.
The only logical explanation for Ubisoft’s reluctance to explicitly confirm a Switch 2 port of Assassin’s Creed Shadows is because the announcement is planned for some kind of future event, like a Nintendo Direct.

Earlier this month, reliable insider NateTheHate claimed a Nintendo Direct is planned for July, after the launch of Donkey Kong Bananza. Yesterday, he reaffirmed this stance in a post on X. Nintendo is yet to announce anything official at the time of writing, but if true, it means some kind of presentation will take place over the next eight days.
It’s likely Assassin’s Creed Shadows could be announced for Switch 2 in a Direct, especially as there’s a lot of hanging questions around the system’s third party support for the rest of the year in general. We still don’t have a release date for Elden Ring or Final Fantasy 7 Remake on the console, and there’s been a lot of rumours around a port of Red Dead Redemption 2.
However, there’s also a chance Ubisoft is just being weird and will eventually take the approach of Gearbox’s Randy Pitchford, who recently tweeted that Borderlands 4 will arrive on the Switch 2 on October 3, 2025, just three weeks after it launches on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
As for what else could appear in a Direct, Nintendo has unanswered questions around its first party slate as well. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Kirby Air Riders, and Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Imprisonment are all without a release date, and yet the first two were both announced for 2025.
There’s also a chance we could get an update for Mario Kart World. At launch, many players noted how Donkey Kong and Pauline only have one additional costume each, which is far less than the rest of the main roster and especially odd with Donkey Kong Bananza being a key title for the Switch 2.
Now the game is out, it’s possible Nintendo could add a bunch of additional costumes, and maybe new characters, to celebrate its release.
The other lingering question is whether Nintendo has a secret Christmas game up its sleeve, but with Pokémon Legends: Z-A out in October, that’s looking increasingly unlikely.
