AUGUSTA, GA (WJBF)- School is out, which means summer is here. This week, the Augusta baseball program is hosting a kids baseball camp for kids ages 5-14.
The camp is a perfect opportunity to teach kids the fundamentals of the game, with drills such as fielding, base running and hitting. AU head baseball coach Chris Howell has been doing this camp for ten years and shares why it’s special each and every year. Plus, one fifth grader who enjoys coming back to this camp.
“The highlight is probably just the kids that continue to come back. They get bigger, they get more athletic, they get taller, and they get older, and they just keep getting better,” Howell said.
“Some of them has been here for four or five years and it’s just fun to see them develop and become little baseball players. They love the game and they’re just fun to be around.”
“My dad was a catcher in high school, and I just liked it, and I thought it was fun, and I’ve had fun doing it ever since I was like three or four years old,” said fifth grade camp participant Nate Dye.
“Have a good attitude on the field, and if you strike out, it’s okay, you’ll get them next time,” Dye said.
The camp runs through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Jaguar Field.
