The Caught Stealing star is sharing the truth about the viral videos of him dancing poorly to the Latin beat at Bad Bunny’s concert.
During his guest appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday, Aug. 12, Austin Butler reflected on his recent trip to Puerto Rico, where he attended the No Me Quiero Ir de Aquí residency and promoted his new movie with Zoë Kravitz.
The actor may have gone in over his head when revealing that he had taken a marijuana edible before the concert, and he blames the gummy for his poor dancing skills.
“Somebody gave me an edible right before the show, and I thought that was a good idea at the time,” explained Butler. “Then it turns out we’re in like, a casita, a house that is basically the second stage. He comes and he’s on that stage at one point.”
Unaware of how the concert was going to play out, Butler wasn’t prepared to be in the spotlight as Bad Bunny (whose real name is Benito) performed in front of the casita for everyone to see him in the background.
“So, suddenly I’m on stage with Bad Bunny,” Butler recalled. “And the edible is working. So it’s like my brain is in two movies. One is like, ‘Benito and I had lunch earlier in the day, I’m just like, so proud of him.'”
He continued by saying, “I’m watching him going like, ‘Oh my god, look how much you mean to everyone here.’ I’m like, falling in love with Puerto Rican culture and the dancing, and everybody is so sexy and amazing.”
While feeling the buzz from the crowd, Butler was definitely feeling the buzz from the edible and admits that he was trying not to draw attention to himself. He wanted Bad Bunny to be in the spotlight.
“Then, the other part of me is like, ‘Don’t dance, because you’ll take attention away from him. This is his moment.’ So I’m like, ‘hide,’ my body is saying ‘hide,’ but then the music is so good and it’s like in my bones at that point,” explained the actor.
While trying to stay aloof and feeling the deep desire to dance, Butler ended up crossing his arms and swaying to the Latin beat, which led to the viral awkward dance videos.
His dance wasn’t the only thing that went viral from his Puerto Rico visit, as fans couldn’t help but retweet and share a video of the actor’s muscular frame at the beach.
