England star will be ‘fuming’ with Thomas Tuchel after Senegal defeat, claims Roy Keane

Roy Keane believes Ivan Toney will be ‘fuming’ with Thomas Tuchel after England’s 3-1 defeat to Senegal on Tuesday night.

Tuchel suffered his first loss as England manager as his players were booed off at The City Ground.

Harry Kane put England in front from close range in the seventh minute but Senegal were level before the break as Ismaila Sarr met Nicolas Jackson’s cross to fire past Dean Henderson.

England struggled to get out of the blocks at the start of the second half and Habib Diarra gave Senegal a deserved lead in the 62nd minute.

Former Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy made two fine saves to maintain Senegal’s lead before England thought they had equalised through Jude Bellingham.

However, referee Stephanie Frappart disallowed the goal with the help of VAR after the ball hit Levi Colwill’s arm in the build up.

Senegal then sealed their win with a superb counter-attack in the 90th minute which was finished by Cheikh Sabaly.

Toney, meanwhile, was left on the bench for the 1-0 win over Andorra on Saturday and was brought on as a substitute in the 88th minute for the defeat to Senegal.

And Keane feels the 29-year-old, who scored 30 goals in his first season for Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli this season, will be unhappy with Tuchel’s decision.

‘The other subs had a bit of an impact, better than the other day [against Andorra], so that’s a bit of a plus,’ Keane told ITV.

‘But if you’re Toney and you’re getting three, four, five minutes, do you know what you’d be fuming.’

Former Arsenal and England striker Ian Wright added: ‘I can only look at it like he’s seen him all week, he didn’t look to put him on until that late, I don’t know what he’s seen in training that he may not like up to this point.

‘I was very surprised to see him not come on, especially when we saw Morgan Gibbs-White and Morgan Rogers come on, I would be disappointed if I was him but you’ve got to keep going.’

When asked by ITV about his decision to bring on Toney so late in the game, Tuchel replied: ‘First of all it was more than three minutes.

‘Second of all, I think Ivan is a specialist for these situations, we created a lot of chances with Morgan Gibbs-White, with Ebs [Eberechi Eze], with Morgan Rogers and with Jude [Bellingham] in fluid positions.

‘I think Ivan is the strongest if we have a phase where we have a lot of balls into the box, and that was the case so after 80 minutes we made him ready.

‘Then we scored and they took the goal away so it took a while longer than we wanted.

‘Basically that’s what he can give – presence in the box and a goal late in the match.’

Tuchel then added in his post-match press conference: ‘No, it was too early.

‘We wanted to play there with Morgan Rogers, more fluid, much more physical player, I think it was too early for Ivan because the game was so, so physical, the opponent was so physical, we were not close enough to the goal consistently to get his strengths into play.

‘We tried to bring him on for a special task to be in the end in the box and use his experience in finishing.

‘For me, he is on this kind of level, a player who needs to be in the box, and he needs to be in and very, very close to the box, and in the moment earlier when we had the changes we were not so close in the box, it was a more open game, it was a lot of intensity needed against the ball to get into a higher pressing situation because we struggled on the ball, so we wanted to bring more bodies into the opponent’s half to play a higher press and we chose different players for that.’

The tool is also suitable for other types of poultry.

In comparison, Amazon has a chicken barbeque rack for a more expensive £6.99 while the Big Green Egg charges £20.

The Lidl deal comes just as the weather finally starts to heat up again.

A heatwave could hit parts of the UK this week as temperatures soar to highs of 29C, the Met Office has said.

The warm air is set to push temperatures as high as 29C by Friday.

More BBQ items will also be dropping in the Middle of Lidl this Thursday.

There is also a 12-piece set of BBQ utensils including a knife, fork, spatula, tongs, skewers and corn skewers for £19.99.

Government advice on BBQ safety

The UK Government have issued some guidelines for staying safe whilst using a barbecue:

  • Keep a bucket of water, sand or a garden hose nearby for emergencies.
  • Follow the safety instructions provided with your gas, charcoal, or disposable barbecue.
  • Never use a barbecue indoors, in a tent, under an awning or in a caravan.
  • Use enough charcoal to cover the base of the barbecue, but not more (normally around 5cms or 2 inches).
  • Keep children, pets and garden games away from the cooking area.
  • After cooking, make sure the barbecue is cool before moving it.
  • Empty ashes onto bare garden soil, not into dustbins or wheelie bins. If they’re hot, they can melt the plastic and cause a fire.
  • Make sure your barbecue is well away from sheds, fences, trees, shrubs or garden waste.
  • In the countryside or public park areas, only use disposable barbecues where there are specially designated areas and carefully follow the safety guidance.
  • Enjoy yourself, but don’t drink too much alcohol if you are in charge of the barbecue.
  • Never use petrol or paraffin to start or revive your barbecue; use only recognised lighters or starter fuels on cold coals.

Island nation nine times larger than UK banned from World Cup as statement released

GREENLAND’S hopes of playing competitive football on the world stage were dashed when the country was told it cannot join the confederation that also represents the Caribbean.

The Arctic territory of Denmark started exploring entry to Concacaf — which covers North and Central America — three years ago.

Football is hugely popular in the vast island nation[/caption]

With a route into Uefa blocked, the Confederation that also includes the sun-kissed Caribbean was seen as the only alternative for the world’s largest island, which is mostly covered with ice and has a population of just 57,000.

Incredibly the country has 5,500 registered players.

But Concacaf’s ruling committee killed off the Polar Teddy Bears’ dream at its Congress.

A statement said their membership application had been reviewed and “unanimously rejected”.

Greenland is the world’s largest island and bigger than western Europe, but 81% of its land is topped by sheet ice.

And it has never played official international football.

Although it is a sovereign territory of Denmark, its considered to be part of North America geographically.

Joining Uefa was a no-no – as European football chiefs only accept countries formally recognised by the United Nations.

Greenland have played friendlies – but they are NOT sanctioned by football’s world rulers Fifa.

And now Concacaf have declined to help the country, which is nine times larger than the UK, make the next major step forward.

The organisation said in a statement: “Based on a thorough assessment conducted by the Concacaf administration and Council, and in accordance with the Concacaf Statutes, the Member Associations reviewed the membership application submitted by the Greenlandic Football Association and unanimously rejected it.”

It comes with US President Donald Trump claiming he wants his country to take control of Greenland.

But the the ice-covered nation, as well as Denmark, insist there is no chance of that happening.

B&M has slashed the price of massive Dairy Milk chocolate bars to just £1.

The budget retailer has reduced the price of the Cadbury fan favourite by a whopping 66 per cent.

Brits could get their hands on a whopping 850g of chocolate for only £1

Shoppers will be able to bag a bargain at the budget retailer, taking home the 850g chocolate bar for £2 less than usual.

The chocolate bars of plain Dairy Milk were once selling in B&M stores for £3.

Now shoppers will be able to get their hands on the massive chocolate block at a discounted price.

The bargain is subject to availability with stores that don’t usually stock the product not selling it at the discounted rate.

Cadbury is a fan favourite in the UK and is the second largest confectionary brand in the world.

The firm makes dozens of flavours of chocolate bars which are sold in stores across the UK.

Discounts and offers are often available for the bigger bars with smaller bars sometimes included in meal deals for a discounted rate.

The plain Dairy Milk chocolate bar offers no bells and whistles, just a large block of quality milk chocolate.

B&M are now offering nearly a kilogram of the British classic for just £1.

The massive discount offered by B&M will net punters a huge block of chocolate for next to nothing.

Typically 850g of Cadburys chocolate would set back shoppers anywhere between £3 and £5.

The offer can be snapped up at any B&M store as long as they have the snack in stock.

The budget retailer is known for its impressive deals and offers, regularly reducing fan favourite items by huge amounts.

The current B&M discount works out at £1.17 per kilogram of chocolate.

The offer is currently active but no indication of when it will end has been given.

It could finish any moment so sweet tooth shoppers better be quick.

B&M often slashes the price of big name brands, with some items getting even cheaper if the B&M app is used.

The B&M app lets shoppers scan items while they are shopping to discover discounts and offers not listed on shelves.

How to save money on chocolate

We all love a bit of chocolate from now and then, but you don't have to break the bank buying your favourite bar.

Consumer reporter Sam Walker reveals how to cut costs…

Go own brand – if you’re not too fussed about flavour and just want to supplant your chocolate cravings, you’ll save by going for the supermarket’s own brand bars.

Shop around – if you’ve spotted your favourite variety at the supermarket, make sure you check if it’s cheaper elsewhere.

Websites like Trolley.co.uk let you compare prices on products across all the major chains to see if you’re getting the best deal.

Look out for yellow stickers – supermarket staff put yellow, and sometimes orange and red, stickers on to products to show they’ve been reduced.

They usually do this if the product is coming to the end of its best-before date or the packaging is slightly damaged.

Buy bigger bars – most of the time, but not always, chocolate is cheaper per 100g the larger the bar.

So if you’ve got the appetite, and you were going to buy a hefty amount of chocolate anyway, you might as well go bigger.

Joy for Wynne Evans as he gets engaged after months of hell following Strictly drama

STRICTLY star Wynne Evans is to marry his girlfriend after proposing on holiday in Morocco.

The opera singer, 53, got down on one knee in Marrakesh on Saturday to propose to Liz Brookes who has loyally stood by him following his axing by the BBC.

The happy couple are expected to wed next year.

Wynne shared snaps of the happy occasion and told fans: “Big news… I got engaged!

“This weekend in Morocco, somewhere between the couscous, the camels, and me limping around the souks like a man with no spatial awareness, I proposed to Liz — and she said yes! (No take-backs, I’ve checked.)

“She’s clever, she’s kind, she’s got excellent taste in men. Absolutely no idea how I pulled that off, but here we are!

“Feeling very lucky, very happy, and just a tiny bit smug.”

A source told The Sun: “It has been a tumultuous six months for Wynne but Liz has been his absolute rock throughout.

“Finally some wonderful news for Wynne and his inner circle to celibate and everyone is chuffed for them both.

“He secretly bought an engagement ring and squirrelled it away for their holiday, and then popped the question over champagne.

“Liz has been incredible over the past few months, supporting him through thick and thin, and had his back throughout, but obviously Wynne is telling everyone she’s a lucky girl!” Liz, 50, who runs her own successful events company in Cardiff, met the star at one of her do’s in Wales.

He asked her out for a coffee the next day, and they have been together for the past 18 months.

News of the engagement comes after the BBC confirmed it would not be renewing the Go Compare frontman’s rolling contract.

It followed a protracted internal investigation into claims he used an inappropriate sexual term at the official photocall of the Strictly tour in January.

Wynne was previously married to wife of 16 years, Tanwen, with whom he has two kids.

They divorced in 2016 which, he later revealed, saw his mental health plummet and left him feeling suicidal.

Wynne, who was partnered with Katya Jones on Strictly, was seen being cheered on by Liz in the audience.

Speaking about his disappointment about being dropped by the Beeb, the 2023 Celebrity Masterchef winner said: “My beloved Wynners, From the very depths of my heart — thank you.

“These past few months, your love has been the light in my darkest days. Every message, every word of encouragement, every moment you stood by me has carried me through more than you could ever know.

“It breaks my heart to say the BBC has decided not to renew my contract so I won’t be returning to my radio show. I’m gutted.”

Wynne has now copyrighted his name and will be launching his own radio show.

Wynne Evans' Strictly scandals

‘Grope’

Wynne encountered a backlash after his Strictly pro partner Katya was filmed removing his hand from her waist.

Fans insisted she looked uncomfortable as she moved it away – but Katya later insisted there was no problem.

In joke

They then sparked further fury, when she was seen refusing to high-five the Opera singer.

The duo were quick to issue a video apology and insisted it was all an innocent “inside joke”.

Crude joke

Wynne came under fire for allegedly telling a “crude” joke to one of the show’s make-up artists.

Insiders claim the opera star made a joke that the folds of his double chin “looked like a vagina”.

A source said: “It was a bit of a vulgar dad joke.”

Vile comment

Wynne was recorded suggesting a three-way sex session with presenter Janette Manrara, using the term “spit roast”.

His remark came at a photocall to launch the Strictly live tour, which pro Janette, 41, is hosting.

He reportedly pulled a suggestive face at actor Jamie Borthwick as Janette moved between them — which is when Evans allegedly made the joke.

Wynne has apologised saying: “My language was inappropriate and unacceptable, for which I sincerely apologise.”

And he looked stunned as he sat on the substitutes’ bench in the 70th minute as Noni Madueke prepared to come on.

ITV commentator Lee Dixon joked: “I might get on before Toney.”

England trailed 2-1 at the time and Tuchel had already brought on Morgan Rogers and Morgan Gibbs-White ahead of Toney.

The Al-Ahli striker had to wait until the 88th minute to try and impact the match, as fellow subs Madueke and Jude Bellingham had failed to do so.

Bellingham did find the net from close range but the goal was disallowed because a handball from Levi Colwill in the build-up, with Senegal going on to win 3-1.

Tuchel was asked after the match about his decision to leave Toney on the bench until the final few minutes.

He said: “First of all it was more than three minutes.

“Second of all I think that Ivan is a specialist for exactly these situations.

Ian Wright and Roy Keane showed sympathy after the match, suggesting he ought to have been brought on earlier.

Wright told ITV: “He’s seen him all week and didn’t look to put him on until late. I don’t know what he has seen in training that he may not like up to this point.

“I was very surprised not to see him come on… I would be disappointed if I was him.”

And Keane added: “If you’re Toney and you’re getting three, four, five minutes, you’re fuming.”

Ed Miliband accused of ‘rewriting history’ after claiming winter fuel axe was to stop millionaires cashing in

ED Miliband was accused of “rewriting history” yesterday after he claimed scrapping winter fuel was about stopping millionaires getting payments.

The bungling Net Zero Secretary tried to justify Labour’s original decision to strip the handout by suggesting the pensioners who would’ve missed out were all rich.

But some of them earned as little as £12,000 per year.

Mr Miliband said: “The principal question was, the richest in our society, should they get the winter fuel payment, should millionaires, should the richest get the winter fuel payment?

“I think the answer for most people to that is no.”

The Net Zero Secretary’s desperate bid to explain scrapping winter fuel payments – before the decision was partially reversed – was blasted by senior Tories, who accused him of spouting a “pack of lies”.

Shadow Energy Secretary Andrew Bowie told The Sun: “Red Ed is even more out of touch than we thought if he thinks people will believe this pack of lies.

“The economy is worse off than when they found it – taxes higher, unemployment higher and living standards lower.

“He is just trying to rewrite history to try and cover up Labour’s embarrassing U-turn.”

Meanwhile, a flagship Net Zero plan has been spared ahead of next week’s spending review — to opponents’ dismay.

Energy Secretary Ed Miliband has ensured his £13billion warm homes scheme will not be downgraded after negotiations with the Treasury.

Chancellor Rachel Reeves decided not to cut the cash which allows heating upgrades through better insulation, solar panels and heat pumps.
