Secret Apple upgrades ‘coming today including extra iPhone battery life & AirPods trick to understand foreign languages’

APPLE is about to show off huge free upgrades coming to millions of customers – including owners of the iPhone, iPad, AirPods, MacBook, and Apple Watch.

Eligible gadget fans will reportedly get the ability to translate foreign languages in real-time using AirPods headphones, combine multiple emoji, and unlock extra battery life without paying a penny extra.

And the way iPhone apps look may be totally revamped for the first time in over a decade.

It’s all part of Apple’s regular software makeover that the company hands out to gadget fans each year.

Apple is showing off the new goodies at its Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) during a special event at 10am in California today – that’s 1pm for New Yorkers and 6pm in the UK on Monday, June 6.

And there are six major upgrades that you’ll want to watch out for…

APPLE UPDATE #1 – MAJOR APP MAKEOVER

The first change to watch out for is a brand new look for your app icons.

Apple is reportedly going to switch up its design for the first time in over 10 years.

Back in 2013, Apple unleashed iOS 7, moving to a brighter and flatter design style for app icons.

Now Apple is expected to change all that with this year’s update.

According to Bloomberg, Apple is going to move to a new look based on the company’s Apple Vision Pro “spatial computing” headset.

The app icons on these virtual reality goggles feature a more transparent look with a circular frame.

So expect the iPhone, iPad, and Mac to follow suit.

APPLE UPDATE #2 – APP OVERHAULS

Three apps in particular are rumoured for major overhauls.

First up is the Phone app, which is one of the best-known default Apple apps.

It’s reportedly having its Favourites, Recents, and Voicemail tabs all combined into a single window.

This is meant to make life easier, but if that sounds like hell to you, there will supposedly be a way to switch it off.

The new icons are expected to look more like the ones seen with Apple’s Vision Pro headset[/caption]

Second is Safari, which is meant to be getting a slick new look (with a glossy URL bar – that’s where web addresses live).

And third is Camera, which is one of the best-used Apple apps.

Over the years, it has become absolutely feature-packed. Think of all the modes: Slow-Mo, Spatial Video, Portrait, Portrait Selfie, Cinematic Video, and so on.

Apple is reportedly simplifying this with its next big update…

APPLE UPDATE #3 – NEW UPDATE NAMES

…and that update won’t be iOS 19.

Instead, Apple is supposedly rebranding all of its major software names to match the years.

So iOS 19 will instead be called iOS 26. That’s because it’ll likely be out in September, and will then run for a full year – so most of its life will be in 2026.

Similarly, we’re expecting iPadOS 19 to become iPadOS 26, and macOS 16 to instead be called macOS26.

And it’s the same story for tvOS 19, watchOS 12, and visionOS 3, which will all be called “26” instead.

It should make things less confusing for, well, everyone.

APPLE UPDATE #4 – MESSAGE BETTER

Apple is also expected to dole out some new features to a fan-favourite app: Messages.

If you’re a WhatsApp user, the new tricks will feel very familiar.

The first is the ability to send polls, which means you can quiz your mates on restaurant options, or have your family vote on the next holiday destination.

And second, we’ll supposedly get the ability to change chat backgrounds.

So you can have something a bit more thrilling, and it’ll sync for everyone in the chat.

APPLE UPDATE #5 – GAME ON!

Apple is also supposedly working on an entirely new app called Games.

Apple
Apple is reportedly building a dedicated Games app – which will also feature premium Apple Arcade titles[/caption]

This will supposedly be a portal for all things gaming on the iPhone.

So it’ll apparently work a bit like the App Store, as well as an access point for Apple Arcade (the premium titles accessed via a monthly subscription fee).

And it’ll reportedly have Home, Arcade, Play Together, Library, and Search tabs.

APPLE UPDATE #6 – AI SEE!

Lastly, Apple looks set to debut a few new artificial intelligence tricks.

The tech titan has faced recent controversy over some AI feature delays.

So Apple is reportedly taking a gentler approach this year, with a smaller slate of features that can definitely be delivered.

The headline upgrade is a new feature that will reportedly allow Apple AirPods owners to translate foreign languages in real time. Perfect for holiday.

Apple
The Apple AirPods could soon translate foreign languages in real time[/caption]

You’ll also be able to combine two emoji (rather than just create entirely new emoji via Genmoji) for the first time.

And there’s an AI-powered battery optimisation feature potentially coming too.

This will reportedly analyse your phone behaviour, and then make adjustments behind the scenes to unlock better battery life.

Sadly there’s no guarantee that this will be revealed at WWDC 2025.

It’s possible that Apple might save this feature (if it even exists) for the expected launch of the iPhone 17 in September.

We won’t know for sure about any of these leaks until Apple makes its big announcement on stage at its Cupertino, California HQ.

IS ANY OF THIS ACTUALLY GOING TO HAPPEN?

Here’s what The Sun’s tech editor Sean Keach has to say…

I know what you’re thinking. There are a lot of maybes, mights, and coulds here.

It’s the same story every year.

Apple keeps its upcoming news under tight wraps – but nuggets inevitably leak.

And the closer we get to the event, the more accurate those leaks become.

We’re now in the final moments before the big reveal, so there’s a good chance that we’ll see these leaks come true.

Of course, Apple may end up delaying or scrapping some of these changes – even at the last minute.

The Californian tech giant will be keen not to over-promise this year.

And none of these changes are particularly shocking.

Apple’s naming conventions have become messy and need fixing. Having software match the year makes sense. I wouldn’t be surprised if the iPhone eventually followed suit.

Mobile gaming is massive – just look at the Nintendo Switch 2 selling out. Apple creating a dedicated Games app is also common sense.

And battery boosts plus real-time translation are sensible AI additions that are within the realms of possibility.

If anything, it would be a surprise if any of this didn’t happen.

I’m a cleaning pro and my 90p hack will banish lingering food smells in your home – it’ll make your kitchen sparkle too

A CLEANING pro has revealed a 90p hack to banish lingering food smells from your home.

Whether you’ve treated yourself to a curry or made your family a slap up roast, food smells can often linger way after you’ve finished in the kitchen.

Coffee grounds are a great deoderiser[/caption]

Candles and diffusers can be great methods of getting rid of these smells, but they can end up getting expensive.

However, experts from Housekeep, Georgina Shepherd, revealed that bad smells can actually be banished with a cheap cupboard staple.

“Coffee grounds are actually fantastic deodorisers,” she said, speaking Coffee Friend.

“During the summer, when kitchen bins can get a bit whiffy, try sprinkling a handful of coffee grounds into the bottom of a fresh bin bag after changing it.

“They’ll help absorb unpleasant odours between changes.”

She added that you can also put a bowl of used coffee grounds in the fridge, to make the food smell fresher.

Coffee is super cheap, and can be picked up from the supermarket for as little as 90p.

The expert added that you can also use coffee grounds to clean onion and garlic smells off your chopping boards.

“To freshen them up, use the same coffee and washing-up liquid paste and scrub gently with a sponge,” she said.

“The abrasiveness helps lift off food particles and stains, while the coffee neutralises any odours.”

Georgina added that coffee grounds are super versatile, and can even be used to make your kitchen sparkle, thanks to their abrasiveness.

“Thanks to their coarse texture, used coffee grounds can come in handy for tackling stubborn grime.

“They’re great for scrubbing pans, trays with burnt-on bits, or even giving your stainless steel sink a good refresh.

“It’s a great reason to hang on to the grounds from your morning brew instead of tossing them.”

Stacey Solomon's cleaning tips

IF you want a home that gleams like Stacey's, you'll need to listen up!

Label Everything: Stacey swears by the power of labelling. From pantry jars to storage bins, clear labels help keep everything organised and easy to find.

Daily Tidy Routine: Dedicate 15-20 minutes each day to tidying up. This prevents clutter from building up and makes weekly deep cleaning less daunting.

Baking Soda Magic: Stacey uses baking soda for a variety of cleaning tasks. It’s great for deodorising carpets, cleaning grout, and even freshening up mattresses.

Upcycle Containers: Repurpose old jars, tins, and containers to store cleaning supplies, craft materials, or kitchen ingredients. It’s both eco-friendly and cost-effective.

Shine with Vinegar: White vinegar is a staple in Stacey’s cleaning arsenal. It works wonders on windows, mirrors, and even limescale build-up in kettles.

Make It Fun: Turn on your favourite music or podcast to make cleaning less of a chore and more of a fun, productive activity.

Use a Toothbrush: For those hard-to-reach spots, a toothbrush can be an excellent tool. Use it to scrub grout lines, around taps, and in other small crevices.

Declutter Regularly: Stacey advises a regular declutter session to get rid of items you no longer need. This keeps your home neat and creates more space for the things you love.

Air Fresheners: Create your own natural air fresheners using essential oils. Stacey loves using lavender or citrus oils to keep her home smelling fresh.

Microfibre Cloths: These are essential for dusting and cleaning surfaces without leaving streaks. They are reusable and can be easily washed.

Incorporate these tips into your routine for a cleaner, more organised home, just like Stacey Solomon’s!

Colby Short, CEO and co-founder of GetAgent revealed that another way to get rid of food smells in your home is to  use baking powder as a deodoriser.

Baking powder is a staple that many of us already have in our kitchen cupboards, and it can be found in all major supermarkets.

You’ll be able to nab it in Tesco for only 57p and Asda and Aldi for just 65p.

Colby explained: “Baking powder is a great, natural deodoriser.

“Sprinkle some onto a soft surface you want to clean, allow it to sit – overnight if you can – and then vacuum it up the next day.”

But having said that, Rebecca’s black doors have left people totally divided – and while some suggest it will “date” her property, others think it looks “so classy”.

Posting on social media, the brunette beauty gave her followers a close-up look at her oak doors, which she bought from Wickes.

Alongside the clip, she revealed a comment she had heard one too many times, as she penned: “Do NOT paint those oak doors black.”

Clearly unbothered by the advice, moments later viewers saw Rebecca holding a paint brush.

The content creator then mimed along to a viral audio that said: “I’m not gon’ do it girl, I was just thinking about it. I’m not gon’ do it…I did it.”

Seconds later, she proudly showed off her new black living room door and beamed: “No regrets.”

Rebecca confirmed that she didn’t prime the door before painting and used Frenchic Furniture Pant in the shade Black Jack, from the Lazy Range.

But the TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @rebeccaforrey, has clearly left many open-mouthed, as at the time of writing it had quickly racked up 279,700 views in just 24 hours.

Aldi launches £3.99 buy that will light up your garden for balmy summer nights – it will add style to a fence in no time

ALDI is launching a budget-friendly buy to elevate your garden this summer.

The German retailer has a whole range of garden buys coming to stores this Sunday, and you won’t want to miss out.

This solar-powered light will be essential for summer evenings[/caption]

The Solar Light Bulbs will be in stores tomorrow and are the perfect buy for the garden.

Not only will they give your fence an instant update, but they’ll also come in handy during the evenings.

Costing just £3.99 each, the bulb comes with a crocodile clip so it can be hung around the garden.

The bulbs come in two different shapes and have 20 firefly LED lights inside to add a whimsical touch.

It also comes with a flat base for use as a table lantern if you don’t want to hang it.

Of course, the lights are solar-powered so you won’t have to worry about getting batteries for the lamp.

Aldi bosses say: “Bring colour into your outdoor space with this Solar Iridescent Lightbulb.”

It’s part of Aldi’s wider push to offer low-cost garden essentials this season, with the budget supermarket regularly selling out of its Specialbuys aimed at outdoor living.

Like with all Specialbuy items from the store it will only be available while stock lasts.

So if you want to get your hands on the bulb, you’d best head to your local store tomorrow to stock up.

More Garden Buys

The budget-friendly retailer is also launching a budget-friendly gadget this weekend that promises to keep bugs and pests at bay throughout the warmer months.

Available in stores across the UK from Sunday, June 8, the Zero In Bug Zapper Lantern is priced at just £7.99 — and it’s already catching the attention of bargain hunters.

The lantern kills nuisance flies and mosquitoes on contact, helping to create a bug-free zone ideal for BBQs, camping trips or even indoor use.

It’s designed for versatility, you can hang it up or stand it on any surface, and it works best in low-light conditions.

The gadget also features four built-in LED lights and comes complete with a USB rechargeable battery pack and charging cable, making it easy to power up for evening use.

Whether you’re enjoying a quiet evening on the patio or hosting friends and family for a garden gathering, this simple tool could make all the difference.

Aldi says the lantern is “perfect for outdoor living,” especially for those who want to enjoy summer evenings without being pestered by insects.

PSG urged to sign £65m Arsenal star and Liverpool’s ‘biggest transfer flop’

UEFA Champions League 2024/25 League Phase Teams Jerseys Shoots

PSG have been told to raid Arsenal and Liverpool to strengthen a squad that just lifted the Champions League trophy.

Paris Saint-German enjoyed a spectacular season under Luis Enrique, finally succeeding in their quest to become European champions while continuing to dominate in Ligue 1.

Given PSG’s young and incredibly dynamic squad, areas of improvement are not obvious but Marcel Desailly has named two players he would ‘like’ to see arrive at the Parc des Princes this summer.

Football icon Desailly somewhat surprisingly believes Arsenal forward Kai Havertz should be PSG’s No. 1 transfer target, citing his versatility as the main reason he would be of use to Enrique.

Signed from Chelsea for £65m in 2023, Havertz has endured a mixed spell at the Emirates Stadium but was badly missed last season as Mikel Arteta had to deal with an injury crisis.

Havertz’s status as Arsenal’s first-choice striker looks set to end this summer as Arteta targets a new No. 9 with Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres heavily linked with moves to north London.

Desailly believes Havertz would be the ‘best transfer option’ for PSG and has also urged the Champions League holders to rescue Darwin Nunez from Liverpool.

The Uruguayan is expected to move on this summer following a largely underwhelming spell at Anfield and Desailly reckons he can revive his career in Paris.

Last month, ex-Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann claimed Nunez could be the club’s ‘biggest ever transfer mistake’ after they paid up to £85m for his signature.

‘Kai Havertz the best option for PSG’

Like Arsenal, Liverpool are also interested in signing a new striker to strengthen Arne Slot’s Premier League champions and are open to offers for Nunez.

‘There are two players I’d like to see at PSG and one is Kai Havertz from Arsenal,’ France World Cup winner Desailly told Oddspedia.

‘Havertz is the best option because he can play as a midfielder but also as a point of reference up front as a striker.

Arsenal FC v Newcastle United FC - Premier League

‘For me Havertz would be the best signing for PSG and the other is Darwin Nunez from Liverpool.

‘Nunez is a point of reference and has great movement, he has been unlucky in front of goal but I think he’d do well in a back-up role for PSG.

‘Those are the two players I’d like to see join PSG this summer.’

While PSG look to strengthen Enrique’s squad, a number of players have been linked with moves away from the French capital.

Manchester United have reportedly been offered the chance to sign Portugal striker Goncalo Ramos while Gianluigi Donnarumma has also emerged as a target for the Red Devils.

PSG beat United to the signing of Ramos two years ago but the 23-year-old has struggled for starts since arriving from Benfica.

Donnarumma, meanwhile, has entered the final 12 months of his contract with Paris Saint-Germain and is believed to be interested in a move to the Premier League.

The 26-year-old Italian reminded fans why he is rated as one of the best goalkeepers in the world during PSG’s brilliant Champions League run.
