‘Disappointed’ – Stuart Pearce slams ‘slow and lethargic’ England star after Andorra win

Stuart Pearce was left disappointed by one England star’s ‘slow and lethargic’ display as the Three Lions underwhelmed with a 1-0 win over lowly-ranked Andorra.
Thomas Tuchel became the first England manager to win his first three games in charge without conceding a single goal.
But the manner of Saturday’s win left much to be desired, with England jeered off the pitch in Barcelona after a lacklustre attacking display.
Noni Madueke was the sole bright spark in an England shirt, and set up the game’s only goal with a low cross for Harry Kane to tap home.
But several England players failed to impress to leave Tuchel with plenty of food for thought just twelve months out from the 2026 World Cup.
And Pearce, in particular, was left frustrated by the performance of Cole Palmer, who was afforded the No10 role by Tuchel but failed to influence the game before his withdrawl shortly after the hour mark.
‘I dont think he got the game, Pearce told talkSPORT. ‘I don’t think he understood exactly what was needed from him as a player.

‘He played slow and lethargically because he had a lot of time to do so. When you have a lot of time to do so, that’s the last thing you need to do. You need to play it quickly, effectively and show energy.
‘He’s not an aggressive player, but every time there was a challenge and the ball fell between him and an Andorran player, he almost got out of the way apologetically and let the Andorran take the ball of him and the rest of the team had to get it back for him.’
Pearce continued: ‘I think we’re all disappointed with Cole today because we know he has the ability.

‘But he’s one of those over the next twelve months that has to prove his ability in an England shirt as well as in a Chelsea shirt, so we know we can trust you and you can be that matchwinner that is going to help us win the tournament.’
Palmer was far from the only England player who failed to make an impact on the game, with Tuchel critical of his entire side for their lack of intensity during large swathes of the contest.
‘I was most worried in the last 20 minutes because I did not like the attitude that we ended the game with,’ said the German.
‘I didn’t like the lack of urgency and it did not match the occasion – it is still a World Cup qualifier. We will let them know [on Sunday] what we want from them.
‘I think we lacked the seriousness and the urgency that is needed in a World Cup qualifier.
‘I think we played with fire. I didn’t like the attitude in the end. I didn’t like the body language. It was not what the occasion needed.’
England are back in action on Tuesday at the City Ground, where they face Senegal in a friendly.

Fury as it costs more to cage a teenage killer than put them up in a ‘superior twin’ room at The Ritz

IT COSTS more to cage a teenage killer than put them up at The Ritz, shock figures reveal.
Taxpayers foot an annual bill of £336,000 — £921 per night — to keep a young lag at a Secure Training Centre.

A room at London’s Ritz can cost £775 a night, or £900 for a “superior twin” room.
John O’Connell, chief executive of the TaxPayers’ Alliance, said: “Taxpayers will find these figures difficult to believe.
“Keeping dangerous child prisoners locked up is inevitably going to be expensive, but the current cost cited is so high that inefficiencies must be present.
“At the very least, the Prison Service needs to be transparent as to why costs are so high.”
Places at Oakhill Secure Training Centre, near Milton Keynes, Bucks, are the most expensive in the prison estate — costing seven times the £122 per night for some adult jails.
Those there are believed to include two 13-year-old machete murderers of Shawn Seesahai, 19 — attacked in Wolverhampton in 2023.
It is run by private firm G4S, holds up to 80 children and is currently the country’s only operational STC.
Ministry of Justice figures also show a place at a Secure Children’s Home works out at £887 a night
Young Offender Institutions come in at £329.
A spokesman said: “Children in custody are largely there for serious offences and have needs requiring more support.”

Danny Cipriani cuddles glam TV star ex 4 months after they split amid tense divorce showdown with wife
RUGBY union hunk Danny Cipriani cuddles up to his glam ex — four months after they split.
The ex-England fly-half, 37, was spotted last week in LA with American Nip/Tuck star AnnaLynne McCord, also 37.

AnnaLynne and Danny became an item last April, just months after he split from wife Victoria Rose, 44.
He launched their relationship by saying: “My miracle… loving you is the easiest thing in the world.”
The pair bonded over their passion for spirituality and were pictured on holiday in Egypt and on the beach in LA.
However, in January the pair were reported to have split with a source saying: “Their romance was very turbulent, Danny is going through a very difficult divorce and wasn’t able to give AnnaLynne everything she needed.”
Danny then confirmed their break-up at a screening of Celebrity Bear Hunt.
He said of AnnaLynne: “We’re not together right now, but she really enjoyed [watching] it.
“We were just talking about it and she really enjoyed it. She was so positive.
“There was one time I phoned her during it and I was thinking about how I’m going to get out of here.
“She was like, ‘Look, I’m down, I’m going.’ She was awesome.”
Danny and AnnaLynne’s reunion comes two weeks after a legal showdown between the Celebrity Bear Hunt star and his soon-to-be ex-wife Victoria.
They were recently in court to finalise details of their split.
A source said: “It was pretty tense. The divorce is far from done.”

Horror as soldier stabbed in the face by maniac in random attack while walking his dog near UK base

A ROYAL Engineer was attacked by a knifeman who tried to steal the dog he was walking.
The trainee, in his 20s, was confronted by a maniac who attempted to steal the pet two miles away from the Swinton Barracks in Tidworth, Wiltshire.
The incident on Friday afternoon sent shockwaves through the camp, though the young victim, who suffered a facial wound, is expected to make a full recovery.
It is understood that police are now investigating the attack.
It is not thought to be linked to the victim’s role in the Army.
A source said: “It was a random attack while he was out walking a dog.
“The attacker approached him and produced a knife, and demanded that he hand the dog over.
“Obviously he refused. The knifeman made a lunge at him, and he was wounded in the face.
“The attacker wouldn’t have known he was in the military, but obviously, with the threats soldiers face, this is still an alarming incident.”
Military sources said Wiltshire Police were investigating the incident as a civilian matter.
Swinton Barracks is a 320-acre military estate on the eastern edge of Salisbury Plain, which is regularly used for Army drills.
It houses two Royal Engineer regiments and two Signal regiments.
Wiltshire Police said: “At around 3.45pm on Friday, we received a report that an unknown suspect had approached a man walking a dog in woodland near Perham Down and attempted to snatch the lead of the dog.
“The victim, a man in his 20s, suffered a minor injury to his face during the incident.
“Our enquiries into the incident are ongoing.”

Oasis stars Liam & Noel Gallagher in major departure from their hellraising days amid ‘electric’ reunion tour rehearsals

OASIS rockers Liam and Noel Gallagher have swapped booze for brews as they rehearse for their long-awaited Live ’25 tour.
The former hellraising brothers sipped tea as they practised with bandmates Bonehead, Gem Archer, Andy Bell and Joey Waronker.

Asked by a fan on X if they were on the Guinness while preparing, frontman Liam, 52, replied: “We’re professionals.
“No time for drinking.”
A source close to the Gallaghers, who will reunite on stage for the first time in 16 years on July 4, said: “Liam drinks tea to help warm up his vocal chords.
“He feels really fresh and they’re excited to get going.
“Rehearsals have been electric and they’re perfectly in sync.”
Liam said previously that he never drinks before a gig, or the night before.
He said: “The voice don’t handle that any more.”
Noel, 58, said last year he wanted a break from drinking and was “going to try and get off the booze”.
