Ahmad Mulakhil and Mohammad Kabir are on trial at Warwick Crown Court accused of targeting the vulnerable young girl (Picture : BPM Media)

A vulnerable 12-year-old girl was raped in a quiet cul-de-sac – hours after another man tried to drag her away by the neck intending to sexually assault her, a court has heard.

Ahmad Mulakhil, 23, is said to have filmed himself attacking the girl in Nuneaton, Warwickshire, last July.

He is on trial at Warwick Crown Court with Mohammad Kabir, 24, who is accused of trying to abduct the girl earlier that same evening.

Prosecutor Daniel Oscroft told jurors: ‘This case concerns two men who both targeted a 12-year-old girl in Nuneaton in the early evening of Tuesday, July 22, 2025, a light summer evening.

‘Mohammad Kabir did so by trying to get her to come with him – which is the attempted abduction of a child – and also grabbing her by the neck, strangling her.

‘This is a legal definition, it doesn’t necessarily mean he choked her.

‘Mohammad Kabir was with Ahmad Mulakhil at the time. It appears they were friends.

‘The prosecution suggests that Mohammad Kabir, when he tried to take her away, can only have had some sexual purpose. What alternative could there have been?’

Mr Oscroft added: ‘While she didn’t go with Mr Kabir, the other person there, Ahmad Mulakhil, remained in the area for the next few hours, and later met her.

‘He talked to her and led her away to a secluded cul-de-sac, Cheverel Place, where he raped her, sexually assaulted her and took indecent images of her.

‘He is charged with child abduction, vaginal and anal rape, counts of sexual assault and making indecent images of a child.’

Jurors were told Mulakhil has pleaded guilty to a charge of oral rape of the 12-year-old.

Mulakhil, of no fixed abode, denies child abduction, two counts of rape, two counts of sexual assault and taking indecent photographs of a child.

Kabir, also of no fixed address, denies intentional strangulation, committing an offence with intent to commit a sexual offence and attempting to take a child.

The court heard Kabir is alleged to have strangled the girl, who had been playing in a park, at about 6pm.

A 12-year-old girl was "targeted" by two men and raped in a secluded cul-de-sac after one of them tried to strangle her, a court has heard. Ahmad Mulakhil, 23, is alleged to have raped, sexually assaulted and taken indecent mobile phone photographs of the girl in Nuneaton, Warwickshire. Prosecutors also allege that his co-defendant Mohammad Kabir, 24, grabbed the girl by the neck, intending to take her away to commit a sexual offence.

She was then seen talking to Mulakhil at about 8pm, when she is said to have claimed to be aged 19.

Mr Oscroft said the girl’s claim was ‘such an obvious lie’ that it was clear from Mulakhil’s reaction that he did not believe her.

Mulakhil was also in contact with Kabir, Mr Oscroft said, and their discussions appeared to be about their alleged victim.

Describing the complainant as very young and vulnerable, the prosecutor alleged that she was ‘forced’ to engage in sexual acts and made disclosures to adults she knew on the same night, claiming she had also been ‘smacked and pulled’.

Mulakhil’s phone was seized after his arrest, jurors were told, and indecent images and images of the two defendants together were found, confirming they were well known to each other.

Investigators also found Mulakhil’s DNA on the girl’s neck and on the inside of her clothing, Mr Oscroft said.

When the defendants were interviewed, Kabir provided a prepared statement denying all of the allegations.

Mr Oscroft added: ‘When confronted with CCTV, phone evidence and images placing him with Mulakhil on multiple days, including the day after the alleged offences, Kabir initially denied but ultimately accepted that he appeared in some of the footage, while still declining to give any explanation or identify anyone shown.’

In interview Mulakhil accepted that he had met the girl twice on July 22, near a park and later alone near a residential street, and claimed he had only engaged in consensual oral sex.

As both defendants were assisted by interpreters in the dock, Mr Oscroft said of the younger defendant: ‘He repeatedly insisted that the girl followed him voluntarily, denying that he ever forced, threatened, tricked or restrained her.

‘He said he did not ask her age, claiming his friend told him she was 19 and that he believed she looked in her twenties.

‘He described communication difficulties due to language barriers and said most interaction occurred through body language. He maintained that he never abducted her and that she came with him of her own choice.’

The trial continues.

It’s that time of the week again when we take a deep dive into what the good subscribers of Netflix have been watching in droves recently. And this week’s global most-watched chart is a mixed bag of goodies, from cosy period mysteries through to a spot of romance on the ice rink. Plus, the spectacle of a man climbing an impossibly tall building on live TV with zero safety equipment. The question is, can the crime thriller His & Hers snatch another week on top? Or has something else popped along to steal its thunder? Read on for this week’s countdown… (Picture: Netflix)

10. Sandokan: The Pirate Prince: Season 1 – 3,500,000 views

Sandokan: The Pirate Prince
Kicking off the countdown this week is this Italian-French production which brings pirate hero Sandokan – as created by author Emilio Salgari in 1883 – to the screen once again. A previous adaptation of Salgari’s books, which aired in 1976, is regarded as one of the best TV shows ever to come out of Italy so this new version has a lot to live up to. Between all the swash and buckle viewers will spot a number of familiar faces, including Gossip Girl’s Ed Westwick and British favourite John Hannah. (Picture: Lux Vide)

9. Run Away: Limited Series – 3,600,000 views

Falling down the charts is the latest Harlan Coben adaptation, which has been keeping fans glued to the screen since it dropped on New Year’s Day. The mystery thriller stars James Nesbitt alongside Minnie Driver and tells the complex and twisty story of a missing girl, and a couple whose comfortable life begins to unravel after one shocking incident sets paranoia and suspicion spiralling. It’s daft, but an enjoyable binge-watch. (Picture: Ben Blackall/Netflix)

STRANGER THINGS: SEASON 5. Sadie Sink as Max Mayfield in Stranger Things: Season 5. Cr. COURTESY OF NETFLIX ?? 2025
It’s no surprise to see Stranger Things Season 5 spending another week in the charts, given that the final season is already one of the most watched offerings on the platform. In case you’re one of those who still hasn’t seen it, this season sees Eleven in hiding again due to military forces trying to hunt her down, while Holly Wheeler is Vecna/Henry’s latest victim. It all came to a big, emotional conclusion on New Year’s Day, rounding off a series which has, for the most part, been unmissable television. (Picture: Netflix)

7. Taskaree: The Smuggler’s Web: Season 1 – 3,900,000 views

Still proving popular is this hit Hindi crime drama, which weaves a gritty tale of contraband, corruption and moral quandaries seen through the eyes of a conflicted and compromised anti-hero. It’s a tense, stylish thriller which is well worth your time. (Picture: Netflix)

6. Single’s Inferno: Season 5 – 4,500,000 views

Single?s Inferno: Season 5
To a new entry now, and it’s the fifth season of this seriously popular dating show – a sort of South Korean version of Love Island. Series five is business as usual as a bunch of singles search for love on a deserted island, which they can only leave as couples to go on date nights. Will romance blossom or will there be trouble in paradise? You’ll have to watch it and find out. (Picture: Netflix)

5. Finding Her Edge: Season 1 – 5,500,000 views

Finding Her Edge: Season 1. (L-R) Cale Ambrozic as Brayden Elliot and Madelyn Keys as Adriana Russo in Finding Her Edge: Season 1. Cr. NETFLIX ?? 2026
Skating straight into the top five is this engaging teen drama adapted from the novel of the same name by Jennifer Iacopelli (which itself was loosely based on the Jane Austen classic Persuasion). Madalyn Keys plays Adriana Russo, a figure skating star who returns to the sport two years after the death of her gold medallist mum, only to be partnered up with the last person she wants – arrogant boy skater Brayden Elliott (Cale Ambrozic). And when her former partner and ex-boyfriend also show up, things get even more complicated. (Picture: Netflix)

4. Skyscraper Live – 6,200,000 views

So to this week’s biggest newcomer, and it’s a live event which quite understandably had millions of you on the edge of your sofas. Skyscraper Live sees American rock climber Alex Honnold attempt to scale the Taipei 101 skyscraper without any ropes or protective equipment – a feat fraught with danger, and with the added edge of playing out live on the streaming platform. Most people know the outcome of this, given it was widely reported (although the show itself played out with a 10-second time delay in case something went wrong) and while watching it after the event may not be quite as tense, this is still worth a look as an outstanding feat of human endurance. Just don’t try this at home, kids. (Picture: Netflix, Inc./Corey Rich)

3. Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials – 8,700,000 views

Mia McKenna-Bruce as Lady Eileen Bundle? Brent
This adaptation of the Agatha Christie classic The Seven Dials Mystery might have had mixed reviews but its blend of cosy crime and period drama is still proving popular with viewers. Set on a grand English estate in the 1920s, it follows Lady Eileen ‘Bundle’ Brent as she untangles a web of secrets after a social party turns deadly. The cast features some serious talent from Mia McKenna-Bruce and Martin Freeman through to Helena Bonham Carter, with the period detail and clever plotting making this a pure whodunit treat for fans of classic mysteries. 2. Can This Love Be Translated? – 9,000,000 views

Can This Love Be Translated? Go Youn-jung as Cha Mu-hee / Do Ra-mi in Can This Love Be Translated? Cr. No Ju-han/Netflix ?? 2026
Another hit from South Korea, this one’s a romantic comedy-drama starring Kim Seon-ho as Joo Ho-Jin, a gifted interpreter who can speak a whole host of languages but struggles with the language of love. However, when he begins working for global superstar Cha Mu-hee (Go Youn-jung) he begins to feel unfamiliar emotions – with love inevitably rearing its head. But as he accompanies his client across the world, will his feelings get lost in translation? (Picture: No Ju-han/Netflix)

1. His & Hers – 17,200,000 views

His & Hers. Tessa Thompson as Anna in Episode #101 of His & Hers. Cr. Courtesy of Netflix ?? 2025
This adaptation of Alice Feeney’s best-selling novel has fair dominated the charts since it was released, so it’s no surprise to see it spending another week in the top spot with nearly twice as many viewers as its nearest competitor. His & Hers-Netflix style updates the setting from the UK to Georgia, as a journalist (Tessa Thompson) investigates a murder in her small home town of Dahlonega, clashing with a detective as she does. The only issue being that her main rival is also her ex-husband (Jon Bernthal). With the story being told from the different viewpoints of both lead characters, this is one in which everyone’s a suspect, and the twists will have you gasping. (Picture: Netflix)
