Everyone has now got their firm favourites on MAFS UK. Bailey, green flag. Julia-Ruth, red flag. Ashley – well, it seems like the tables have turned.
Ashley has been one of the most-loved grooms for weeks now, with everyone obsessing over his humour, golden retriever personality and patience with Grace. However, everyone has now started turning on the MAFS groom this week and he’s becoming a villain, and there’s one main reason for it.
People are calling out Ashley for never taking accountability when he does something wrong and always putting the blame on someone else. Even Grace herself told him this, saying it’s always her fault in arguments.

One furious person on Reddit wrote: “Does anyone else hate Ash? From what I’ve heard, people really like Ash and lots of women find him attractive. Am I the only one who’s fully on Grace’s side here? I feel like he talks about not wanting to ‘change himself’ for a partner but what he really wants is to keep making jokes at her expense or making misogynistic jokes and comments.”
“He hates being held accountable and he hates not coming off as the good guy. I don’t think he takes her seriously or understands her views at all. He’s certainly not a feminist and I feel like he would have loved to have a partner who dresses up to please him, laughs at his jokes to please him (even at her own expense) and basically someone who doesn’t really think or feel any of her own feelings.”
They then called out the people online who are so quick to give him the “benefit of the doubt” when he does something wrong, which is part of the problem.

Everyone is in agreement, with another person adding: “He isn’t very good at taking accountability and he is very quick to paint Grace as the problem and paint her out to be hard work or a nag when all she’s doing is clearly communicating issues and being clear about how she wants to be treated.”
“You’re right – he doesn’t take accountability for how his comments and ‘jokes’ land with Grace, or how they could be seen as derogatory. And he seems to have a high opinion of himself,” someone else said.
People are calling out his “big ego,” “passive aggressive” digs which he blames as “just jokes” and “traditional patriarchal” views which are actually quite problematic. Oh, and he’s a rugby player. Instant red flag.
However, others think he is a really nice guy who was just matched with the wrong person. On Twitter, lots of people are calling for him to walk out of the experiment because Grace is wasting his time, saying “he doesn’t deserve this”. I can’t decide what side I’m on.
