Amazon Web Services (AWS) unveiled a new generation of AI models at the AWS Re:Invent conference in Las Vegas. The Nova 2 models expand the existing Nova family with four new models that were specifically developed for different areas of application. This announcement underscores AWS’ commitment to providing companies with powerful AI tools tailored to their specific needs.
The new models include Nova 2 Lite, a cost-effective model for everyday tasks, and Nova 2 Pro, designed for complex tasks such as programming. Nova 2 Sonic is a speech-to-speech model designed for use in conversational AI, while Nova 2 Omni is a multimodal model capable of processing text, images, videos and voice.
In addition to the model upgrades, AWS has introduced the new Nova Forge service. This service allows companies to create their own versions of the Nova models, called Novellas. For an annual fee of $100,000, customers can access pre-trained, mid-trained or post-trained models and further develop them with their own data.
Matt Garman, CEO of AWS, emphasized the importance of these developments for companies looking to adapt their AI models. He compared the process of model training to learning a new language, highlighting that it is easier to integrate new information when the models can be customized from the ground up.
Companies like Reddit, Sony and Booking.com are among Nova Forge’s first customers.
