It’s never a happy bit of news when a local restaurant or eatery closes, and that’s even more so the case when that restaurant has been a hotspot in the local community for years. With so many local restaurants and cafes becoming local meeting places for friends and families, those places become part of the community.
But, it’s very common for these spots to close. When it comes to pizza places specifically, according to IBIS World, there was 75,161 Pizza Restaurants in the US businesses as of 2024, which was a decrease of 0.6 percent from 2023. They also note that the number of pizza restaurants in the U.S. business landscape has declined 0.6 percent per year on average between 2019 and 2024.
According to ScrapeHero, the largest pizza chain in America is Hunt Brothers Pizza, with 10,489 locations across 36 states and territories. But, what about locally owned ones?
Now, a local pizza restaurant in Boise, ID, is closing its doors for good after seven years in business. That spot is Spitfire Craft Pizza & Pints, which was known for their unique Detroit-style pizza in an area that wasn’t really familiar with Detroit-style pizza.
Spitfire Craft Pizza & Pints took to social media on Aug. 11 to share the news.
“We appreciate the seven years in business, the customers, employees and friends we have made. We are excited to have introduced Detroit style pizza to Boise and the Treasure Valley,” they stated. “We enjoyed making pizza, pouring beer and talking beer. But this chapter is ending this week when we run out of supplies.”
Followers flooded the post with their well wishes. “Rich we will miss you. We loved the pizza and beer. Best of luck on the next chapter,” one said. “One of the sadder moments for us, too. We’ll miss your fabulous pizza and chatting with you over the amazing craft selection you’ve provided over these years. Good luck in whatever comes next,” another said, adding to keep in touch.
According to the post, they closed out their run with some specials and a party. That seems like a good way to say farewell.
