Classified as a World Heritage Site and inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list since 1983, the Monastery of Santa Maria da Vitória is the biggest attraction in the town of Batalha, located in the Leiria Region. It is just a few minutes from this iconic monument that the Haven Nature Hotel & Villas is located. Opened in May 2025, the new hotel claims to be “a privileged starting point for discovering a territory that resists mass tourism”. Created by the Jordão family, the hotel was born from the idea of “offering a peaceful refuge where nature sets the rhythm and where the region can be experienced authentically”.
Haven Nature Hotel & Villas
Integrated into a seven-hectare property, Haven Nature Hotel & Villas has 24 rooms and five villas independent and stands out for its biophilic architecture, a design concept that promotes the connection between built areas and natural elements, in the name of well-being and sustainability.
“Bringing nature indoors” is the objective of this new accommodation, which focuses on regenerative tourism. “Wood, cork and stone create welcoming environments, illuminated by natural light and with open views of the forest. The interiors are serene and minimalist, reinforcing the connection between inside and outside and creating an atmosphere that invites you to slow down and enjoy the essentials”, explains the accommodation’s presentation.

Both the rooms (from €117), with a balcony or garden view, and the suites, offer a minimalist design, natural light and a decor marked by organic materials. The villas (from €205), with types T1 (up to 4 people) and T2 (up to 6 people), include kitchenette and outdoor terrace. Without a restaurant, the unit has a bar, which serves light meals.
Now integrated into the portfolio of the Unlock Boutique Hotels group, this new unit also stands out, the Roots Spa, with a heated indoor pool, jacuzzi overlooking the landscape, panoramic sauna, Turkish bath and sensory showers. “Guests can also enjoy a line of exclusive treatments inspired by native flora and developed by Wamo, a local brand that values the traditions and natural ingredients of the Serra de Aire, which is another way of integrating the territory into the well-being experience”, it is described. Outside there is also a platform for yoga surrounded by centuries-old cork oaks and a 1 km maintenance circuit (within the property).
Haven Nature Hotel & Villas is also certified as a Bike Hotel. In addition to the amenities (closed boxes, equipped workshop, changing rooms, chargers for electric bicycles), it offers personalized trails that encourage discovering the region in a sustainable way. “A Pump Track is in the final stages of completion, where, very soon, cyclists, skaters and skaters will be able to practice their tricks”, he announces.

“Inspired by the concept of regenerative tourism”, the hotel developed, through a network of local partners, several genuine experiences, which “reveal the true identity of the place and, at the same time, leave a positive impact on the local economy”. One of the suggestions is the possibility of closely monitoring a community herd of 200 goats that live on the slopes of the mountain, discovering traditional herding practices. Participants can care for the animals, milk them and even sponsor one of the goats. Other proposals include workshops pottery, weaving workshops, making bread baked in a wood-fired oven with local producers, or guided tastings of artisanal cheese and local olive oil.
For those looking for more active experiences, the hotel suggests tours buggy along ancient mountain trails, walks that cross rural villages or horseback rides that end in panoramic picnics with regional flavors. “The more adventurous” will also find rappelling, climbing, caving and visits to the Grutas da Moeda, located in the municipality of Batalha and in the Serras d’Aire e Candeeiros Natural Park.
“We are committed to showing that Batalha is not just a place to visit the Monastery. There is an extraordinary cultural, natural and human wealth here, which deserves to be experienced and valued. And we want whoever visits us to leave here feeling that they were part of this history”, explains Cidália Patrício, director of the Haven Nature Hotel & Villas (Rua dos Bastos, 2 Casal do Azemel, Batalha.
