A body has been found in the Italian Alps in the search for missing British hiker Matthew Hall.

The 33-year-old, from Hull, disappeared last Wednesday while walking in the Lombardy region of northern Italy.

The discovery of a body was made yesterday evening close to the Cross of Daloo, a mountain viewpoint high above the town of Chiavenna, where Matthew had been staying.

His family have been informed.

Italian authorities said the body was found in a crevice in the same area where he had sent his last text telling a friend he had taken a wrong turn and was having a rest.

A helicopter was brought in to assist with the recovery because of the danger involved in reaching the body.
