Body language expert breaks down old Lily Allen and David Harbour clip people say is ‘toxic’

After Lily Allen’s new album, an old video of the singer doing a house tour with David Harbour has resurfaced, and a body language expert claims it shows signs their marriage was “broken” all along.

The Stranger Things actor has been accused of having a three-year affair on Allen with a costume designer, who has since come forward and allegedly identified herself as Natalie Tippett. Harbour hasn’t responded to the allegations.

Allen appears to sing about the alleged cheating and breakdown of their marriage in a song called Madeline on West End Girl, and people are now noticing the cracks in their relationship in old posts and videos.

In the Architectural Digest house tour clip filmed in 2023, Allen shows off the huge wardrobe in their New York townhouse, while Harbour stands and watches.

Body language expert Judi James told the Daily Mail the video shows how “banter can morph from hairline fractures in a relationship to irreparable breaks” in a marriage.

“Her body language is predominantly compliant and submissive here while his is dominant and commands the screen. Although Lily is very much the smart, talented and impeccably styled star here, it’s David camera-hogging on an industrial-strength basis and many of his jokes sound like small digs about their status,” she said.

At one point, James claims Allen steps forward to speak and Harbour “mimics” her hand gesture before talking over her, which could be seen as toxic. In the same house tour video, he also made a joke about cheating on his wife.

“The length of time they continue to speak over each other creates an uncomfortable moment, suggesting a power battle,” she added. “He only quits with a loud, theatrical, closed-eyes sigh of exasperation and instead of moving to stand behind her as she did for him, he sits down on a seat as though giving up.”

In one scene, the body language expert says Harbour stands in front to “dominate the camera,” while Allen “stands small in the background, compliantly waiting for her cue with her hands clasped in front of her torso like a polite member of staff”.

James also noted that when Harbour speaks to Allen, he refers to her using her full name, which sounds “unaffectionate and slightly sarcastic” rather than a “romantic or loving nickname”.
