Five boys have been arrested after a teenager was stabbed along a residential road in east London.

The attack happened on Charlemont Road, Newham, at around 4pm on Saturday.

A boy, 14, was found seriously wounded and was taken to the hospital, where he remains in a life-threatening condition.

Five boys, aged between 14 and 17, were arrested today on suspicion of attempted murder.

Four of the teens are still in custody, while one has been released on bail.

Detective Inspector Joshua Palmer said: ‘This was a horrific attack on a teenager, witnessed by numerous members of the public.

‘At this very early stage of the investigation, there doesn’t appear to be an obvious motive for the attack.

‘The boy is in a very serious condition in hospital, and we are urgently trying to gather as much information as possible.’

People near Charlemont Road on the day of the incident who may have recorded the incident on their phones, car dashcams or doorbell cameras have been asked to contact the police.

‘It may be crucial to our investigation,’ Palmer added.

Knife crimes in London have increased by 80% over the last 10 years, according to the Ben Kinsella Trust.

Official figures show that 14,577 knife-related crimes took place in 2023, up from 12,786 in the previous year.
