A British tourist has died on holiday in Majorca after drowning in a hotel swimming pool.
Paramedics rushed to Playamar Hotel and Apartamentos in s’Illot, not far from the Love Island villa, shortly after 8.30am local time today.
Ambulances as well as an air ambulance were sent to the scene after the tourist, a 52-year-old man who has not yet been named, was found floating face down in the hotel’s pool.
Emergency medical organisation SAMU said: ‘A British man aged 52 has been found floating face down in the swimming pool of a hotel in s’Illot.
‘He was pulled out of the water and basic resuscitation manoeuvres were practiced on him until the first ambulances arrived when it was confirmed he had gone into cardiac arrest.
‘Despite attempts to resuscitate him he died. The alarm was raised at 8.37am this morning.’
Majorcan police are understood to be at the scene and have launched an investigation into the death.
It’s not yet known whether the man was on holiday alone or with friends or family.
