A British tourist has died and another is fighting for his life in the Canary Islands after falling nearly 20ft when the railing of a hotel ‘gave way’.
The incident happened in the Spanish resort of Costa Teguise, Lanzarote, in the early hours of this morning.
The two Brits, aged 56 and 54, plunged to the ground, with the first dying on the spot.
The other was rushed to the intensive care unit of the Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
Emergency services arrived at the scene after receiving reports of the fatal fall at around 1.30am.
Upon arrival, the health teams could only confirm the death of one of those affected.
The Civil Guard has launched an investigation to clarify the circumstances of the accident, including possible structural negligence in the hotel’s maintenance.
It is not yet known if the two British nationals were related in any way, and they are still to be named.
Local media is yet to reveal where the incident happened.
