Brock Purdy’s job requires a level of focus and mental/physical preparedness unlike any other. Between the offseason grind, practices, time in the gym, and, of course, NFL gamedays, Purdy, like all professional athletes, has to be careful about what he puts in his body. The importance of what he uses to rehydrate and refuel on a daily basis led him to a partnership with one of the cleanest organic sports hydration drinks ever created—Recover 180, and he spoke about that with Men’s Journal recently.
While many popular sports drinks highlight key benefits, Recover 180 provides Purdy and other athletes with science-backed hydration and an electrolyte-fueled solution that’s one of the most unique in history. Most importantly, it eliminates the extra ingredients that NFL players, professional athletes and many others can’t afford to ingest.
Why Brock Purdy Relies on Recover 180 Over Any Other Sports Drink
When I sat down with the San Francisco 49ers quarterback, he gave a glowing review of Recover 180. However, what stood out most was how perfectly the cleanest sports drink I’ve come across meshed with what Purdy needed, and his excitement about the product quickly became apparent.
Purdy first spoke about the importance of hydration being so pivotal to his day-to-day life as an NFL quarterback, and specifically highlighted what it was about Recover 180 that immediately sold him on it.
“I would just say in general, obviously your body being hydrated, I think is one of the number one keys to an athlete’s performance,” Purdy said. “We’re always trying to do different treatments and things to our bodies, but at the end of the day, how well is your body hydrated? That’s how fast you’re going to recover after games, obviously you’re going to need hydration for performance.”
As for what led Purdy to team up with Recover 180, it was the comparison to other sports drinks that made this a near-perfect fit for the 25-year-old signal caller.
“The other brands and stuff, if you actually look at the ingredients and what’s in them, I think, I’m sort of scared and skeptical,” Purdy told Men’s Journal. “People promote all these drinks and whatnot that you see on commercials and stuff, but you really look at it, it’s like, ok, I’m about to put that in my body, and there’s that amount of sugar, or whatever.”
“More than anything, it’s going to hurt my performance, it’s going to hurt my recovery. When it came to Recover and the opportunity to team up with them, I obviously looked at what’s in it, what am I putting in my body? Once I saw all the things that were clean about it and how organic it is, I was like, ‘This is awesome, I want to be about it, I want to promote it to kids and people in life, this is a clean sports drink. It’s good for everything.’”
It’s far from surprising to hear Purdy’s takeaways after researching the brand, which he officially partnered with in 2024. Recover 180 has a 1.3:1 ratio of potassium, sodium and magnesium. It also boasts 110 percent DV of Vitamins A & E, along with coconut water that helps add natural electrolytes.
How Brock Purdy Uses Recover 180 During Training and on Gamedays
While Purdy’s use of Recover 180 daily is obviously important, how the organic sports drink benefits him while training and on gamedays is undeniably the most important factor. For most (including myself), it’s impossible to grasp the impact that being a professional athlete has on your body.
Fortunately, Purdy explained how he utilizes the product both during training and on game days with the 49ers.
“For me, it’s throughout the week, training and stuff is hard and whatnot, but when I come home, it’s immediate — [I’ve] got my Recover in the fridge. I go in the sauna, I have my Recover right when I come out. So, it’s obviously off the field, but in the offseason, I always got a Recover on the field with me during training sessions and everything,” Purdy explained.
During the conversation with Men’s Journal, one comment that stood out was about the need for Purdy to avoid putting anything “detrimental” in his body, another thing that led him to Recover 180.
“It’s got the electrolytes, no added sugar, it’s organic, it’s clean. I just don’t want to put anything in my body that’s obviously going to be detrimental, and the more organic and clean that it is, all of us athletes are all about, especially myself,” Purdy added.
And then, of course, there are gamedays. I’d assume the night before and build-up to a game is when remaining hydrated with a clean product is so vital, and Purdy laid out how his gameday routine looks.
“Before games and stuff, it’s huge, having a Recover,” Purdy explained. “I’ve got one usually as I’m driving in and right in my locker, just preparing for the game. People don’t really realize the amount of energy and stuff that it takes to get ready for a game. The stretching, the emotions, all of that stuff, it takes energy from your body. So I’m always, 24/7, sipping on that—before the game starts, and it gets me right and ready.”
I Tried Brock Purdy’s Current Favorite Recover 180 Flavor
In good faith, I couldn’t stand behind any product without trying it first, so I went out and grabbed Purdy’s current favorite flavor—watermelon. Recover 180 is currently sold on the website, on Amazon, at Whole Foods Market, Kroger, QuikTrip, all Discovery Land properties and more.
I quickly found Recover 180 at a Wegmans up the street from me, and after opening it, Purdy’s reason for backing this brand over any other quickly became obvious.
Not only was it delicious (I finished it within about five minutes of opening it), but considering I drank it after being outside for roughly 3-4 hours prior, Recover 180 lived up to the hype. It helped me rehydrate, and when I finished it, there was no unpleasant aftertaste or lingering sugar feeling in my mouth. It simply felt and tasted clean.
Among the most interesting aspects of Recover 180 is the addition of elderberry powder, which aids in immune support and is something that I personally give my children when they aren’t feeling well and strongly believe in.
I’m not a professional athlete, but I can say for a fact that Purdy’s high praise of Recover 180 was the real deal. The 49ers star was incredibly genuine while discussing how impactful the product is for him, and that’s almost certainly because he’s just telling the honest truth about a product he believes in.
