Bryan Mbeumo has become ‘frustrated’ by the delay in his transfer to Manchester United, according to a member of Cameroon’s backroom staff.

United are in advanced talks to sign Mbeumo but have been unable to reach an agreement with Brentford, who are holding out for a £65 million transfer fee.

Mbeumo has also attracted interest from Tottenham, who are now managed by his former Brentford boss Thomas Frank, but it’s understood that the 25-year-old has agreed personal terms with United.

United have seen multiple offers rejected by Brentford this summer but are confident that a deal can be struck for the forward, who scored 20 goals in the Premier League last season.

Cameroon’s assistant coach, Ashu Cyprian Besong, claims he has spoken to Mbeumo about his potential move to United and says Brentford have been made aware of the player’s desire to join Ruben Amorim’s side this summer.

‘Yes, obviously he’s very frustrated with how long it’s taken. But he’s a professional and anticipates these things,’ Besong told Telecom Asia.

‘I spoke to him about a week ago and he is very calm with everything that is going on.

‘But of course, he’s already told them he wants to go to United.

‘He just wanted the two clubs to find an agreement, as he’s very grateful for the opportunity that he’s been given by Brentford in his career.’

Meanwhile, Brentford’s director of football, Phil Giles, refused to rule out the prospect of keeping Mbeumo at the club if United are unable to meet their asking price.

‘He had a fantastic season,’ Giles told BBC Sport last week.

‘We expected big interest in him, we have had big interest in him.

‘He has his ideas about where he wants to take his career. He is well within his rights to do that.

‘It is not impossible he is still a Brentford player next season if we agree he is going to stay.

‘If it’s not right deal, why would we do it?

‘He is certainly one of our best players, if not our best player, and we need our best players. There’s no harm in keeping your best players.’
