Bryant Gumbel’s Family Releases 1st Statement After His ‘Medical Emergency’

Former Today Show host Bryant Gumbel was rushed to the hospital on Monday, October 20, after suffering a “medical emergency.”

While little is known of the broadcaster’s condition, his family confirmed to TMZthat he is “okay.”

According to the outlet, Gumbel, 76, was transferred to the hospital from his home in New York City around 9 p.m. Monday night.

Gumbel previously revealed he was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2009 during an appearance on Live with Regis and Kelly. He explained that doctors found a malignant tumor that he had undergone surgery to remove. According to Gumbel, the prognosis was good as the cancer had not spread.

“I’m still doing well,” he later told People. “Doctors tell me I’m free and clear, so I hope for better times.”

Gumbel spent 15 years of his career co-hosting the long-running morning show. He went on to anchor CBS’ The Early Show and later HBO’s Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel.
