Build a trip to the Italian Riviera with Lego and their latest set for adults

If you can’t manage a holiday to Italy this year, you can bring it to your living room or office with an amazing Lego display designed by a fan.

As holiday destinations go, you don’t get much better than the Italian Riviera. It’s not cheap but while neither is Lego, their latest set aimed at adults is at least something you can keep, and customise, forever.

The Riviera set is part of the Lego Ideas line, that includes the likes of a Pixar Luxo Jr. model and a massive Botanical Garden. The original design was created by Alex Sahli from the US, and he’ll get 1% of the profits from the retail version once it’s released this August.

As you can see, the set involves a picturesque town on the Ligurian coast, complete with three separate buildings – with multiple removable floors – and a fishing boat.

The buildings all have detailed interiors, with one being a gelato store, one a fish market, and another a diving equipment shop – although they all include living areas for the shop owners as well.

There’s also 10 Lego minifigures in the set, including a fisherman, various tourists, and a grandmother teaching her grandson to make traditional trofie pasta.

The whole set measures 34 cm wide by 31 cm, with the highest point being 23 cm. It’s made up of 3,251 pieces, so it’s a pretty huge set, which explains why it costs £249.99 in the UK, from Lego stores or the official website.

‘I’ve always been passionate about travel, and Italy stands out as my favourite destination. Its blend of natural landscapes and architectural beauty is truly inspiring,’ says creator Alex Sahli.

‘My submission is centred around the villages of Cinque Terre. One of the key structural challenges I faced was incorporating buildings at various angles while ensuring overall stability. I’m especially proud of the vibrant colours and the textural variety throughout the build – particularly in the water, houses, and stonework. I’m also pleased with how the tile roofing turned out; it’s a simple design, but it functions effectively and complements the overall aesthetic’.

As set number 21359, Italian Riveria will go on sale on August 10, unless you’re a Lego Insider member (which requires only a free sign-up), in which case you can buy it from August 7.

If you get the set between August 7 and 13, you’ll also receive a free Mediterranean Scene set, which isn’t something you can buy separately and will only be available as a gift with purchase during those dates.
