Call Of Duty: Black Ops 7 leaks confirm Black Ops 2 maps and no doors

A ton of new rumours have dropped for Call Of Duty: Black Ops 7, ahead of its gameplay reveal at Gamescom next week.

Although Black Ops 7 will no doubt be one of the best-selling games of the year, as all Call Of Duty games always are, it does seem like it’ll need to work a bit harder than usual to win over players.

Not only will it have some real competition for a change, in the form of Battlefield 6, but despite the strong launch of Call Of Duty: Black Ops 6, the series still lost players faster than previous years.

Microsoft and Activision will be debuting a gameplay trailer at Gamescom next week, that could win over lapsed fans, but in the meantime a number of leaks have cropped up, courtesy of a prominent and reliable Call Of Duty insider.

TheGhostOfHope has recently made several claims regarding Black Ops 7 on X, including how the game will launch with three remastered maps from 2012’s Black Ops 2: Raid, Express, and Hijacked.

This would make sense since not only have the more recent Call Of Duty games featured maps from older games, but Black Ops 7 is a direct follow-up to Black Ops 2.

Apparently, these will be the only Black Ops 2 maps at launch, but that doesn’t necessarily mean Activision won’t bring back more through post-launch updates.

TheGhostOfHope adds that the maps will be more colourful saying they’ll be more like the ones seen in Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War than Black Ops 6. If so, this could be in response to some complaints that Black Ops 6’s maps are too dark.

They also claim that specialist abilities will make a return. These have only ever appeared in Call Of Duty: Black Ops 3’s multiplayer and were temporary upgrades such as active camouflage and a grappling hook.

The response to this appears more positive than the returning maps, with the X post garnering over 4,000 likes compared to the roughly 2,800 likes for the post about the maps.

Perhaps the strangest rumour, though, is that the game’s 6v6 maps will have no doors. That may sound a bit random, but fans seem elated at the prospect.

Doors are unpopular because they slow down your movement and interfere with the game’s fast-paced, run and gun playstyle. Plus, they’re an audio cue, so it’s difficult to catch other players off guard.

Other claims made by TheGhostOfHope include weekly challenges, à la the 2023 Modern Warfare 3; a perk that allows for looping streaks; and the removal of both the Pick 10 system for loadout customisation and the tactical sprint mechanic.

One less positive claim is that the new Ground War type mode is ‘trash’. They’re likely referring to the Skirmish mode that leaked via the Xbox app, though they’ve heard the returning wingsuit ‘is cool.’

Even assuming all of this is accurate, apparently none of it will matter to Activision since it apparently believes Call Of Duty ‘is too big to fail’.

However, some Call Of Duty fans have expressed an interest in jumping ship to Battlefield 6 and even the former president of Activision subsidiary Blizzard Entertainment think’s EA’s shooter will ‘boot stomp Call Of Duty this year.
