Two Cardiff students have taken to TikTok to show off their new uni house, and it’s honestly something out of a horror film.
After the cushy – albeit old-fashioned – comfort of first-year halls, second-year student Ella shared a taster of “what we’re living with” on TikTok, showing a huge cracked wall which appears to be growing black mould.

Using the trending Jet 2 sound, Ella showed us round her Cathays home where a “lovely statement piece” of art decor, in the form of mould, and cracked dirty walls and ceilings, can be seen in the corner of a bedroom.
The video also shows bare bricks creeping through the cracks in the wall and the blinds, or the lack of blinds, over the window.
The TikTok has gained more than 50k views, with the comments affirming the “Cathays core” we know all too well, and the house being described as “Cathays standard.”
Some comments even questioned whether the students “are getting paid to stay there?”, to which the creator responded, “We wish! Art deco I guess,” referring to the mud stained carpets and stained walls.
More TikTok’s have shown the sea of rubbish bags and stray pot noodle cups which students have to fight their way through everyday.
Even the nightclub Circuit has commented on the rubbish in the streets saying: “It gives me active.”
However, the perks of switching from a tiny box room in Talybont South to a slightly-less-nice Cathays can have its perks.
If a glimmer of sun shines through the clouds in Cardiff, best believe every student will be using the Cathays pavement as a sun bathing spot, blasting music and drinking Thatchers, whilst the rats watch.
So, as far as student houses go, I think this could be the best it’s going to get.
