Life-saving new jab against world’s deadliest cancer could ‘cure’ half of all patients and one day eliminate the disease

A NEW vaccine could cure up to half of all pancreatic cancer cases and may one day wipe out the disease entirely, scientists say.

Pancreatic cancer is the deadliest cancer in the world.

Some 10,500 people are diagnosed with the disease in the UK each year.

And only about seven out of 100 of them will survive it for five years or more, according to Cancer Research UK.

This is partly because it shows no symptoms until it has already spread to other parts of the body, making it incredibly hard to treat.

While surgery, chemotherapy and radiation can help extend life, they rarely offer a cure.

Now, researchers at Case Western Reserve University and Cleveland Clinic, both in the US, have developed a new type of jab to fight pancreatic cancer.

This vaccine uses tiny particles called nanoparticles to train the body’s immune system to find and kill ‘bad’ cancer cells.

In early tests with animals and lab models of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC), the most common and aggressive type of pancreatic cancer, more than half of the treated patients were completely cancer-free months after getting the vaccine.

“Pancreatic cancer is super aggressive,” said Professor Zheng-Rong (ZR) Lu, a biomedical engineer at Case School of Engineering, who has been working on the jab.

“So it came as a surprise that our approach works so well.”

The vaccine also encourages the body to create its own T cells, immune fighters specially trained to attack cancer, while building up ‘immune memory’ for longer-term protection.

Unlike some treatments made just for one person, this vaccine could work for many patients with this type of cancer, the experts said.

The exact cause of pancreatic cancer is not always known, but about one in 10 cases of the disease are thought to be caused by genes that increase a person’s risk of developing the cancer.

The scientists believe the jab could even be used as a preventive for people at high risk of pancreatic cancer, such as those with inherited gene mutations linked to the disease.

“We’ve shown that our vaccine generated immune memory in preclinical models,” said Professor Zheng-Rong.

“If we could do that in patients, we could prevent PDAC before tumors start forming, so the vaccines could be either therapeutic or preventative.”

The researchers hope to move towards human clinical trials, once further safety studies in animal models are completed.

Symptoms of pancreatic cancer

PANCREATIC cancer doesn't always cause symptoms in its early stages.

As the cancer grows and you do begin to show signs, these may come and go and be unspecific, making it hard to diagnose, according to Pancreatic Cancer UK.

Common symptoms include:

  • Indigestion – a painful, burning feeling in your chest with an unpleasant taste in your mouth
  • Tummy or back pain – it may start as general discomfort or tenderness in the tummy area and spread to the back, which get worse lying down and feel better is you sit forward
  • Diarrhoea and constipation – see a GP if you have runny poos for more than seven days, especially if you’ve lost weight as well
  • Steatorrhoea – pale, oily poo that’s bulky, smells horrible and floats, making it hard to flush
  • Losing a lot of weight without meaning to
  • Jaundice – yellow skin and eyes, as well as dark pee, pale poo and itchy skin

The ‘gorgeous’ £10 buy that provides pretty colour and lights up your garden or terrace ‘all-year long’

SHOPPERS are racing to snap up a set of string lights designed to brighten up outdoor spaces while blending in with softer garden aesthetics.

These LED string lights adorned with warm white bulbs and artificial pink roses offer a simple way to introduce light and colour to gardens.

Retailing for £10 at The Original Factory Shop, the LED rose string lights promise to suffuse gardens, terraces and gazebos with warmer hues.

The product description reads: “It’s a great no-fuss addition to any garden, terrace or gazebo, providing light in those darker corners and colour all year long.”

The faux foliage and rose detailing aim to replicate the look of real climbing plants without the maintenance.

While not a replacement for outdoor lighting, the set can be a low-effort ambient addition to a space.

The Original Factory Shop (TOFS) is a British discount department store chain established in 1969 by Peter Black.

Its first store opened in Keighley, West Yorkshire, and it originally sold surplus soap produced by one of Black’s factories.

TOFS today operates over 180 stores across the UK.

It comes as an expert revealed to The Sun seven ways to make a garden look bigger.

One easy method is to create zones, according to Ivana Agustina, Head of Project Management at ShrubHub, an online landscape design service.

Agustina said: “The human brain perceives multiple small experiences as more substantial than one uniform space.

“By dividing your garden into zones – perhaps a dining area, a lounge space, and a planting section – visitors mentally ‘travel’ through your garden, making it feel much bigger.”

Another approach is to train climbing plants to grow up trellises or along walls.

Agustina explained: “Vertical gardening is both practical and visually expanding.

“By drawing the eye upward with wall-mounted planters, trellises with climbing plants, or tall, narrow planters, you create height that makes the garden feel more spacious.”

Meanwhile, Gardener’s World recently named trumpet vines (Campsis) as one of the best plants for covering walls and fences that are an eyesore.

Garden features that add the most value to a house

A well-kept garden can add anywhere between 5-20% to the value of a property.

Sellhousefast.uk carried out a study and consulted 36 estate agents, garden designers and property professionals from across the UK.

And the experts revealed the garden feature which adds the most value to a property is a shed.

  1. Shed – 82%
  2. Patio or paving – 76%
  3. Secure fencing, walls or gates – 72%
  4. Outdoor lighting – 66%
  5. Sturdy decking – 62%
  6. Water features eg. fountain or pond – 58%
  7. Modern garden furniture – 54%
  8. Artificial lawn/grass – 40%

These deciduous climbers produce striking tubular flowers in shades of red, orange or yellow, typically that bloom from late summer into autumn.

Known for their rapid growth, they can quickly cover trellises or frameworks, though experts recommend pruning annually to keep them in check.

While they thrive in warmer conditions, they are also frost-hardy once established.

Warning over Dubai chocolate as food safety experts say trendy treat could be deadly

A WARNING has been issued for Dubai-style chocolate products over concerns for customer health.

The FSA issued a warning on June 12 urging customers to remain cautious when purchasing the trendy chocolate product.

They cited concerns over labelling which could affect customers with allergens[/caption]

It comes after the watchdog identified a number of products that pose a health risk to customers with allergies.

Imported products may not be intended for sale within the UK and might not comply with UK labelling laws, meaning allergens might not be accurately labelled.

Other products may contain additives and colours which are banned in the UK market.

An investigation is underway as the FSA is surveying and sampling the products to work out how widespread the issue is.

They are also working alongside allergy charities to raise awareness of the risks to customer health.

While they reported that “most” of the Dubai-style chocolates available in UK shops was safe, customers are asked to remain vigilant and to report any concerns to your local authority.

Professor Robin May, chief scientific advisor to the FSA, said: “The vast majority of food in the UK is safe, but some imported Dubai-style chocolate products don’t meet our standards and could be a food safety risk, especially for consumers with allergies.

“If you are looking to buy Dubai-style chocolate, we advise sticking with trusted retailers, like the ones you’d use for your weekly shop, as products are more likely to be made for UK consumers and so are safe to eat.”

This advice is particularly important for customers with food allergies or intolerances, as Robin went on to say: “we advise you do not buy the product unless you’re certain it’s intended for sale here.”

Customers that are concerned about specific products are advised not to buy it, and to report it to the local authorities so that it can be removed from sale “as swiftly as possible” if it fails to meet the FSA’s standards.

If you have already purchased a product that you’re unsure of, customers are advised not to eat it.

In order to comply with UK regulations, food labels must highlight any of the 14 allergens present in the product.

Customers can look for certain information to check whether a product is UK legal compliant.

This includes a clearly labelled English description with the following information:

  • The name of the food e.g. milk chocolate with pistachio paste filling;
  • A list of ingredients, with allergens emphasised;
  • The weight of the food in grams;
  • A best before or use by date;
  • The name and address of the UK or EU business responsible for the product information. If the food is not from the UK or EU, the name and address of the importer must be included

Pistachios already present a risk to some customers, with tree nut allergies affecting 0.5% of the adult population.

Symptoms of a tree nut allergy usually occur within minutes but can take up to two hours.

Some people could suffer from severe allergies that result in life-threatening anaphylaxis so it is important to be informed on the foods you’re consuming.

Labels should highlight if an item contains a tree nut, as well as including precautionary labelling like “may contain” to adequately inform customers.

For more information on food allergens and how to stay safe, consumers should visit food.gov.uk

JoJo Siwa hits back at Miley Cyrus after star mocked her relationship with Chris Hughes

JOJO Siwa has clapped back at pop icon Miley Cyrus after the chart star mocked her new relationship with Chris Hughes.

The actress and singer – who formed a blossoming connection with ITV Racing pundit Chris, 32, when they appeared in Celebrity Big Brother this year – recently confirmed their romance.

JoJo called out Miley’s ‘bad joke’ about coming ‘out of the closet’[/caption]

The Dance Moms alum, 22, then hammered home the serious nature of their relationship as she insisted she’ll “never break up” with the Love Island star.

Yet JoJo, who revealed she was no longer a lesbian in the CBB compound during the show’s live stream, has now come under fire from the Wrecking Ball hitmaker.

Boomerang songstress JoJo said she now wants to identify as queer, yet Hannah Montana star Miley, 33, appeared to throw shade on her at a recent World Pride event.

She said, in a piece to camera from inside a closet: “‘Oh, my God, I haven’t been in here since sixth grade!’

“Enjoy coming out of the closet if this Pride is the time for you.

“It shouldn’t be a month – it should be a year; it should be infinite.”

The Party In The USA songstress then dealt her jibe and added: “I’m going back inside to get more pretzels and find JoJo Siwa and bring her back out.”

Yet now she has called out the “bad joke” by her pop idol as she shared images of her Miley Cyrus-themed fifth birthday party to her Instagram page.

In her caption, she wrote: “I was happy at my 5th birthday having a Miley themed party, and I’m still happy now at 22… If you know me, you know that Miley is my day 1, grew up beyond inspired by her from 2 years old on…”

“I wasn’t sure how I felt about things for a couple of days… but I’ve started to come to some thoughts…. I don’t believe what Miley said at world pride was ill intended, honestly I think it was meant to be a joke, but just not very good one haha.

“Not what the world, or myself needs to hear anyday of the week.”

She then told how she had tackled the issue head-on and added: “I messaged Miley light heartedly about it and she replied and said “All love. Always.’

“Honestly the most beautiful thing I’ve learned in the last five years is that love is a gorgeous rainbow. Don’t question yourself, don’t second guess yourself, just love. Love love love love love.

JoJo Siwa and Kath Ebbs' relationship

We look back at JoJo Siwa's romance with Kath Ebbs:

JoJo Siwa went public with hers and Kath Ebbs’ relationship in January 2025.

The Dance Moms star had been introduced to 27-year-old Australian content creator Kath by a mutual friend called G-Flip six months earlier.

JoJo had split with her girlfriend Dakayla Wilson in November 2024 and it is believed she hooked up romantically with Kath soon after.

Speaking in March at the 36th Annual GLAAD Media Awards, JoJo said of her relationship: “I am so happy. I am in a very mature relationship, and it’s beautiful. It’s taught me so much about life.

“It’s taught me so much about love and respect, and it’s a beautiful thing.

“It’s different in more ways than I can count. I wouldn’t even know what to say the biggest is ‘cause just everything is so different and special.”

Kath even claimed they had talked about marriage together.

However, JoJo’s romance with Kath abruptly hit the skids on April 25, 2025, at the Celebrity Big Brother wrap party.

JoJo dumped Kath at the bash after spending 19 days in the CBB house – where she had grown close to Love Island star Chris Hughes.

“People judge no matter what, and it can be very hard, especially when it comes from someone you love, and look up to… but if you feel happy and content with yourself, that’s most important.

“You get one life… hold onto it, make it yours, find your happy, and love.”

OPENING UP

JoJo’s sexuality confession came to light in the CBB house earlier this year, where she said she realised she was no longer a lesbian.

During a private chat in the bedroom, she confessed: “I feel so queer,” as co-star Danny Beard then responded: “I’m queer!”

In a new interview following her reality TV stint, she told how the phrase queer “encompasses how I am, and who I am”.

She added: “I do live this very, very big public life that has so many eyeballs on it, and it can get really hard to navigate.

“But I’m also living a human life. You can’t help who you love.”

The term queer is defined by LGBTQ charity Stonewall as “a term used by those wanting to reject specific labels of sexual orientation and/or gender identity”.

JoJo’s sexuality was already a subject of conversation on CBB when American actor Mickey Rourke made a homophobic slur when talking to her earlier on in the series.

REAL DEAL

Meanwhile, amid the background noise, JoJo and Chris’ partnership is going from strength to strength.

The Bulletproof singer recently opened up on the “genuine” nature of their bond.

She said: “People can see our chemistry, and they got to see it develop.

“I think everyone’s just curious, and I can’t blame them.”

Clarifying the pair’s exact relationship status she told The Guardian: “It’s not platonic any more, and it’s been a beautiful development, a beautiful connection, and I’m absolutely head over heels for him and he’s the same way.”

She added: “I won’t ever speak for him, but for me personally, the happiness in my life just radiates off of me right now.

“Literally yesterday, I was massaging my cheeks; I’ve never been in pain from smiling so much.”

Who is Trent Alexander-Arnold’s model girlfriend Estelle Behnke?

TRENT ALEXANDER-ARNOLD has been in a relationship with Instagram model Estelle Behnke since October 2024.

The England right-back has left Liverpool after 20 years, and his gorgeous girlfriend will no doubt be looking forward to life in Spain after seeing Trent sign for Real Madrid.

Who is Trent Alexander-Arnold’s girlfriend Estelle Behnke?

‘Smitten’ Trent Alexander-Arnold started liking Estelle Behnke‘s Instagram posts of her jet-set lifestyle on October 17, 2024 — just a month after his split from ex Iris Law.

The influencer has almost 60,000 followers on the platform as of May 5, 2025.

This digital flirtation soon blossomed into real-world romance.

In late October 2024, Trent and Estelle took a romantic trip to the £6,000-a-night five-star Soho Farmhouse in the Cotswolds.

Eagle-eyed fans noticed the duo had tagged themselves in separate posts from the private members’ club.

And the following month they enjoyed a 2½-hour meal at celeb haunt Cibo in Hale, Cheshire.

A source told The Sun: “It’s very early days but they are officially dating — they seem really into each other.

“Trent hasn’t been single long and is enjoying spending time with Estelle.

“They’re just really enjoying each other’s company and seem quite smitten.”

Trent’s relationship with Iris Law

Trent’s romance with Iris Law became public knowledge in April 2024, when they were snapped enjoying a drink together on the fashionable Portobello Road in Notting Hill, London.

In May 2024, the couple was also spotted on a date night in Monte Carlo, Monaco.

They met while filming an advert for Guess Jeans, who both of them work for as ambassadors.

Their five-month relationship was characterised by social media connections and high-profile vacations.

Some of Iris’ pals opened up to The Sun’s Ellie Henman about why the couple decided to call time on their relationship.

They said: “Trent and Iris had a really fun summer together and it was going great.

“But life is about to get really busy for them both, with Trent’s schedule packed with first-team football and Iris having jobs all over the world.

“They went on holiday with his family in July and they got on so well.

“So even though they are not dating any more, Iris and Trent will definitely stay friends.

“She was really into him and loved spending time together. But Iris is a career woman and she is focused on her own success.

“And being a Wag was never really going to be her bag, especially as Trent lives up North and she’s based in London.

“They’ve cooled things off now and are just going to stay mates.

“There is no bad blood between them and Iris only has good things to say about Trent.”

Real Madrid move

The Liverpool legend is calling time on his career with the club after winning two Premier League titles, the FA Cup, the League Cup and Champions League.

He released a statement on social media reading: “After 20 years at Liverpool Football Club, now is the time for me to confirm that I will be leaving at the end of the season.

“This is easily the hardest decision I’ve ever made in my life.

“I know many of you have wondered why or been frustrated that I haven’t spoken about this yet, but it was always my intention to keep my full focus on the team’s best interests, which was securing No.20.

“This club has been my whole life — my whole world — for 20 years.”

Trent is set to join Real Madrid from Liverpool for less than £1million, just in time for the 2025 Club World Cup.

Jake Paul admits dramatic body transformation to heavyweight for Mike Tyson fight was ‘brutal’ and left him ‘too FAT’

JAKE PAUL admits his heavyweight days could be behind him – after he got TOO FAT for his fight with Mike Tyson.

YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul bulked up TWO STONE to 227lb (16st 2lb) before controversially bringing Mike Tyson out of retirement in November.

It was a dramatic transformation from his 185lb fighting days

The food-lover gorged on pasta, steak and potatoes in a bid to eat his way up in weight – but he even struggled to RUN amid the additional lbs he was forcing down.

So Paul – who beat Tyson over eight shorter two minute rounds – has spent the last six months trimming back down the the 14st 4lb cruiserweight limit.

He said: “It was just too much and my body wasn’t made for it and even when I got into the ring I just felt too fat.

“So cruiserweight is definitely the perfect weight for me.”

The lightest Paul has fought at was 183.6lb he scaled before defeat to Tommy Fury, 26, in 2023 in what has been his first and so far only loss.

Paul’s fight with Tyson was as scrutinised due to the age gap as it was commercially successful – with over 100 MILLION watching on Netflix.

And the American looked to add to the streaming home run by entering shock talks to face Canelo Alvarez, 34, on May 3 in Las Vegas.

But Canelo pulled out of the deal to instead sign with Saudi boxing chief Turki Alalshikh – agreeing a four-bout contract.

He beat William Scull, 32, in Riyadh in May to reclaim the undisputed super-middleweight titles to defend against Terence Crawford, 37, in their September 13 super-fight.

So Paul, 28, turned his attention to an exhibition bout against WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis, 30.

But Davis is now set to rematch Lamont Roach, 29, in August after their controversial New York draw in March.

Paul finally called upon ex-middleweight world champ Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, 39, back down at his natural and more comfortable weight.

He said ahead of the June 28 DAZN PPV: “I wanted the hardest and the biggest fights, which was first Canelo then Gervonta fell through.

“And then at any given point in time we’re negotiating or talking with five to six fighters to see who’s down and ready to fight and making a date happen.

“And after Canelo and Gervonta, we were talking to multiple people and Chavez was the one to step up, that made sense for me to stay active and get a fight in June.

“So really it’s just the long line and I just need more time but I’m gonna get to all of these names when the stars aligned.”

‘Get him out!’ rant Love Island fans after boy’s ‘scary red flag behaviour’

LOVE Island viewers have ranted “get him out”, after they claimed one of the boys is showing “scary red flag behaviour”.

Last night’s episode was filled with drama, with one of the guys causing “alarm” amongst fans.

The Love Island boy in question is Ben, 23, and the outrage came after he lost his temper with American Islander Toni, 24.

Last night, tensions brewed between the pair after he randomly got annoyed at a comment she made about the “prospect of the boys not being safe” when any male bombshells enter the villa.

Things then escalated, when Ben admitted that he thought she gave him “ick”.

When Toni tried to ask him about this, he immediately got defensive and dismissive of her feelings.

Things quickly turned sour and he told her: “I don’t feel like me and you have got that spark if I am being honest.”

Looking taken aback Toni replied ‘okay’ as he continued: “That is just me being honest but I know when I have got it with someone. That I feel it straight away. But yeah I don’t feel like you and me have got it.”

Toni then said: “I mean I don’t think that technique is going to work for you here.”

He asked what she meant and she replied: “Right away off the bat.”

Smirking, he responded: “You’d be surprised. I feel like sparks have already been made.”

An unhappy Toni hit back: “Good luck pal.”

But Ben’s bad attitude towards Toni, and also how he had snapped at her earlier in the episode, has not gone down well with viewers, with some claiming this is a “red flag”.

There were even calls for him to be removed from the villa.
