Elon Musk hints at new ‘America Party’ as Trump fumes billionaire has ‘lost his mind’ after bitter bromance break-up

ELON Musk has hinted at launching a new political force just days after a spectacular public falling-out with President Donald Trump.

In a string of posts on X, the tech mogul asked his 220 million followers whether it was “time to create a new political party in America that actually represents the 80% in the middle.”

The feud erupted over Trump’s ‘big, beautiful bill,’ which proposed stripping billions in government subsidies from Tesla[/caption]

By Friday, after 80 per cent of the 5,6million responders backed the idea, Musk declared: “This is fate.”

He later endorsed a supporter’s suggestion to name it the America Party.

It echoes the name of Musk’s America PAC – the vehicle he used to pour $239million into backing Trump and GOP candidates in 2024.

But the former allies are now locked in an escalating war of words, with Trump telling ABC News, “You mean the man who has lost his mind?” when asked about a possible call with Musk.

“Not particularly,” he added when pressed on whether he planned to speak to the billionaire.

The rift appears rooted in Trump’s prized One Big Beautiful Bill Act, a sweeping domestic spending package Musk has called a “disgusting abomination.”

The president has hit back, reportedly threatening to strip Musk’s companies of federal subsidies.

Musk also called for Trump’s impeachment earlier this week, adding fuel to the feud by promoting baseless claims linking the president to the Jeffrey Epstein case — claims which GOP lawmakers quickly rejected.

Political fallout

Musk may not be serious about launching a new party — he also responded “Hmm” to a suggestion he reform the GOP from within — but his comments have added fresh uncertainty to an already divided political landscape.

Launching a viable third party would require navigating complex state-by-state ballot access laws.

Illustration of a timeline showing events in a Musk and Trump feud.

And unlike his super PAC, direct party donations are capped under federal election rules.

Still, the fallout from the split is spreading.

House Speaker Mike Johnson — a key Trump ally — waved off Musk’s criticism and threw his support behind the bill that triggered the clash.

“The American people are concerned about things that really matter,” Johnson said Thursday.

“That is making their taxes low, making their economy work, making the border secure, making energy dominance a big thing again.”

Vice President JD Vance dismissed talk of Trump being impulsive, calling such claims “ridiculous,” while other allies rushed to defend the president from Musk’s Epstein allegations.

Tesla out, Mars off-limits

The bromance breakup has even reached the White House garage.

Trump, who bought a red Tesla Model S in March in a show of support for Musk, now plans to sell or give it away, administration officials said.

Republican lawmakers and influencers appear divided.

Some, like Rep. Thomas Massie, acknowledged Musk’s frustrations but urged caution.

Others, including members of Trump’s youth advisory board, declared their loyalty firmly with the president.

Meanwhile, Musk’s allies hinted at deeper tensions, with MAGA influencers joking that Trump’s “not invited to Mars anymore.”

Hedge fund manager Bill Ackman called for reconciliation, but hopes of a peace deal faded quickly as Trump doubled down Friday morning.

Musk, for his part, says he’ll be around for “40+ years.”

Whether that includes a third-party bid or a return to GOP primaries remains unclear.

How did Musk and Trump's relationship crumble?

ELON Musk and Donald Trump spent Thursday launching insults on social media as their relationship quickly went sour.

The Tesla owner called for Trump’s impeachment as the president hit back and warned the government could end all federal contracts with Musk’s companies. Here’s how it went down:

  • On Tuesday, Musk tweeted that Trump’s signature “big beautiful” spending bill was a “disgusting abomination” that would add billions to the federal deficit
  • On Thursday in the Oval Office, Trump addressed Musk’s criticism of the bill and accused Musk of trying to kill it because the bill ends federal subsidies for electric vehicles
  • Musk responded by live-posting on X as Trump spoke, initially shrugging off the president’s assessment with an unbothered “Whatever,” before tearing into the bill’s other spending provisions
  • Trump escalated the feud after the Oval Office meeting with multiple posts on Truth Social, saying he told Musk to leave the White House instead of continuing to work with Doge and threatening to dump Musk’s federal contracts, which are worth billions
  • Musk fired back on X by saying he was “decommissioning” the Dragon spacecraft made by SpaceX that brought the stranded Nasa astronauts back from the International Space Station in March
  • Musk also escalated the war of words by reposting and replying “Yes” to a tweet claiming that Trump should be impeached and replaced by Vice President JD Vance
  • Musk further fanned the flames by claiming that Trump is named in the infamous “Epstein files” and making unfounded accusations that its the reason they haven’t been released to the public.

Three new family-friendly summer events that kids will love from obstacle courses to circus classes

AS June emerges and the school summer holidays loom, The National Trust has revealed its top events for the summer.

From houses to gardens, The National Trust has hundreds of sites – all with different histories and stories.

The National Trust will be hosting ‘Summer of Play’ across 180 places this summer[/caption]

Across 180 National Trust places for the six weeks of the school summer holidays, there will be Summer of Play.

This includes gardens and parks jam-packed with free drop-in activities and playful experiences.

Some venues will have mini stages, others will have meadow mazes.

Families will also be able to build dens, experiment in craft corners, learn circus skills, visit pirate lairs, experience sensory spaces and burrow in cost reading nooks.

Summer of Play activities are included within admission and there’s no need to book.

Tom Freshwater, head of visitor programming at The National Trust has picked out some of the top events on this summer.

Summer of Play at Seaton Delaval Hall, Northumberland

Seaton Delaval may have been one of the architect Sir John Vanbrugh’s smallest country houses, but it was home to the larger-than-life Delaval family.

Tom explained: “Known as the ‘Gay Delavals’ due to their high spirited and flamboyant lifestyle, an invitation to one of their parties was the hottest ticket in town.

“In an age notorious for extremes of behaviour, they stood apart as the most notorious of all Georgian partygoers and pranksters.

“Like a party from the Delavals’ Georgian heyday, expect the unexpected with pop up Summer of Play activities throughout the summer.”

There will be drop-in circus activities, experts with mini circus performances and demonstrations and a recycled junk orchestra.

In addition, children can head to the Delaval Playdium play area with multi-level stages, pulleys and leavers which allow ‘productions’ to be brought to life.

Tom added: “See who’s competitive in hobby horse races, or delve into a chest full of sports kit and ball games, plus table tennis and badminton and traditional games like tower block building or four-in-a-row.”

Also, every Friday in the Community Kitchen Garden, there will be the chance to harvest and get crafty with nature – or curl up in the sheltered story corner, with Young Gardeners.

Activities include crafting, outdoor games and book nooks[/caption]

Summer of Play at Chirk Castle, Wrexham

Steeped in 700 years of history and nestled in the atmospheric Welsh Marches, Chirk Castle is a magnificent 13th Century Medieval fortress that later became a family home for over 400 years.

Tom shared: “With far-reaching views over the Cheshire and Shropshire plains, 480 acres of working farmland and 4.5 acres of award-winning gardens, Chirk’s estate makes for a stunning backdrop to the perfect summer adventure.

“And of course, no visit would be complete without an exploration of the Medieval castle itself, with stunning gardens, preserved dungeons and state rooms fit for a king.”

This summer, families can head to Chirk Castle’s Big Play Adventure – an outdoor experience for young adventurers.

There will even be opportunities to harvest from gardens or participate in a hobby horse race[/caption]

There will be four themed zones to be explored, inspired by the estate itself – Forest, Meadow, Stream and Kitchen Garden.

“Each zone is packed with interactive activities designed to spark imagination and encourage active play,” Tom added.

“From den building and designing your own obstacle course to relaxing in the mindfulness zone and engaging in imaginative play, there’s hands-on fun for everyone.

“Finish your adventure by climbing the straw bale lookout posts to admire your creative efforts from above.”

Summer of Play at Hanbury Hall, Worcesterhsire

Hanbury Hall is a country retreat in the heart of Worcestershire.

“This year’s Summer of Play [at Hanbury Hall] is inspired by the magnificent wall paintings inside the Hall, and the Victorian fetes held by the Vernon family,” Tom revealed.

There will be areas for smaller children too[/caption]

“Challenge your family to play traditional fete games including coconut shy, hoopla, and tin can alley.

“Dance around a giant maypole, dress up as historic characters and put on your own show, and get your heart pumping with games of football, badminton, and cricket.”

Amongst the activities, there will also be opportunities for smaller children to let off steam, including a play area, building blocks, rocker bikes, balance boards and a sensory table.

Events include circus skills, face painting and bracelet making too.

The National Trust also recently revealed its top family-friendly attractions for May half term with fairytale castles and ‘book jungles’.

Plus, The National Trust’s best free attractions to visit this summer – from sky gardens to ‘city oasis’ parks.

Does honey really do anything to ease hay fever symptoms? I tried it for a week and grilled experts to find out

HAY fever season has well and truly arrived.

And with a staggering 16million Brits affected, it’s no wonder we are always on the lookout for a miracle cure.

Honey dripping from a honey dipper into a bowl.
Getty
Some people swear by honey as a natural hay fever remedy, but does it really work?[/caption]

A growing number of TikTok influencers – and some family members – claim local honey is the wonder hack guaranteed to ease your itchy eyes and runny nose.

And a quick social media or Google search brings up dozens of posts claiming that a spoonful is all it takes to provide the relief you need.

The theory is that local honey contains small amounts of pollen from nearby plants, and by consuming it, your immune system becomes accustomed to the pollen, reducing sensitivity and the severity of reactions over time.

But is there any scientific research to back up the claims?

Sadly, GP Dr Helen Wall says the evidence is “slim”.

“Some small studies and anecdotal reports suggest that locally sourced, unprocessed honey might reduce symptoms,” she tells Sun Health.

“It is based on the idea that it could act like a natural desensitisation process.

“Desensitisation is a therapy that can be used to cure allergies by slowly introducing the allergen in small amounts so the immune system can get used to it.

“But controlled clinical trials are lacking and systematic reviews do not support honey as an effective treatment for hay fever.”

Despite what you may hear, honey does not work like an antihistamine.

“Antihistamines are medications that block histamine receptors which then prevent the release of a chemical called histamine, which is released when your body thinks it has come across a threat,” Dr Wall says.

“It is meant to be a protective mechanism, but in people with allergies, histamine is triggered unhelpfully and this is what causes allergy symptoms.

“Honey does not block histamine receptors so it doesn’t work in the same way as many medications would.”

And if you stop taking your usual medicine, you may find your symptoms worsen.

“If someone relies solely on honey, they may suffer from poorly controlled hay fever which can impair sleep, concentration and quality of life,” Dr Wall says.

“It often builds up over time, so getting on top of it early can be beneficial.

“I recommend starting antihistamines and steroid sprays four weeks before hay fever starts in those known to suffer.

“In people with allergic asthma, untreated hay fever can worsen respiratory symptoms and trigger asthma.”

Some patients will swear by local honey, and I don’t doubt their experience, but medically I can’t explain it nor recommend it

Dr Sophie FarooqueConsultant allergist

Dr Sophie Farooque, a consultant allergist at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and one of the UK’s leading allergy experts, says that while local honey may be “delicious” and soothe a scratchy throat, there is little scientific evidence that it will reduce symptoms.

“The theory that honey may help stems from the idea that pollens contained in honey will desensitise you,” she says.

“However the pollen in honey is from flowers and not from the pollen that causes hay fever, which is from tree, grass and weed pollens.”

Many of us are plagued by constant sneezing when the pollen count is high[/caption]

A 2002 study by the University of Connecticut compared taking a tablespoon of locally produced, unfiltered honey with a tablespoon of nationally produced pasteurised honey, and honey flavoured corn syrup (the placebo) in patients with hay fever.

None of the three groups noticed a reduction in the symptoms.

Further research in Malaysia evaluated 40 patients with hay fever and divided them into two groups. Half ate honey and half did not.

“Those who consumed the honey noticed a very slight reduction in symptoms compared to those that didn’t, but participants had to eat a jar a week every day for months and the pollen in Malaysian honey will be different to the UK,” Dr Farooque adds.

“Some patients will swear by local honey, and I don’t doubt their experience, but medically I can’t explain it nor recommend it.

“There isn’t good data and scientifically, it doesn’t make sense.

“If patients want to go drug-free then saline rinses have far stronger evidence and I often suggest these.

“Of course eat honey for pleasure, but not in the belief that by doing so you are desensitising yourself and reversing the common immunological processes that cause seasonal allergies. It’s a myth.”

Hay fever first aid kit

Analyse your symptoms and find the best medication kit for you…

Antihistamines

Antihistamines (cetirizine or loratadine) work by blocking histamine in the body, which is released when the body detects something it thinks is harmful.

Histamine causes blood vessels to expand and the skin to swell, but in people with hay fever, also causes an allergic reaction. That’s the watering eyes, blocked nose, rashes and so on.

Max Wiseberg, airborne allergens expert and creator of HayMax, says that many antihistamines are available on prescription, such as Telfast, which you can see your GP for or get through an online doctor, such as LloydsPharmacy.

Telfast, and other prescription-only antihistamine tablets, work in the same way as over-the-counter antihistamines, but are stronger and intended to help with more severe symptoms.

“Get your prescription in advance of the season so you have your medication in time to start taking it at the right time,” he says.

“Some are best taken at least one month before the hay fever season starts.”

Nasal sprays

A nasal spray can be effective in controlling congestion and stuffiness.

Pharmacists can advise on nasal sprays (sodium cromoglicate, ipratropium bromide or decongestant), and eye drops, too.

Nasal sprays can also help with other symptoms of hay fever “because the medicine is targeted directly to the nose, which is where the vast majority of allergens enter the body”, Max says.

Independent pharmacist Rita Ghelani says: “Try Xlear nasal spray, which contains xylitol, and has anti-bacterial properties and keeps the nasal lining moist.

“If symptoms are more severe, then try an anti-inflammatory nasal spray – sometimes referred to as a steroid nasal spray – which can take a few days to work.

“Start with one that contains beclomethasone, which is used twice a day, in the morning and at night.”

Rita also advises cleaning the nose with a saline nasal spray before a steroid spray, saying: “It will remove sticky mucus from the nasal passage, thus improving the effectiveness of the medication.”

Eye drops

If itchy eyes are your primary concern, Rita says: “Try using sodium cromoglicate eye drops.

“These make the eyes less sensitive to allergens such as pollen and reduce irritation.

“They need to be used four times a day to keep the levels of the active ingredient high enough to be effective.

“Keep using them even if symptoms improve.

“Using a good eye drop to lubricate the eyes may also help with dry eyes during the summer months.”

While it might not help with your hay fever sniffles, honey does of course have other health benefits

Researchers at the University of Oxford found it can effectively relieve cough and cold symptoms

It also contains vitamins, minerals, enzymes and phytochemicals, which are anti-inflammatory and contain cancer-fighting antioxidants.

But that doesn’t mean it’s good for everyone, as it’s also very high in sugar.

Dietitian Emma Shafqat said one tablespoon contains around 6g, so she recommends consuming it “in moderation”.

Excess sugar intake can contribute to tooth decay, weight gain and blood sugar spikes, so people with diabetes should take particular care.

Emma added that honey should not be given to children under the age of one as there is a risk of botulism – a rare but serious condition where the body’s nerves are attacked by a toxin.

MY TEST

Woman holding a spoon of honey.
The Sun’s Lynsey Hope tested local honey for a week
Supplied

HAVING suffered from hay fever since I was a teenager, I was keen to put this theory to the test.

While the evidence is scant, lots of people swear by honey so I was hopeful it might have some effect.

First of all, I had to work out how much to take.

Researchers recommend around 1g per kilogram of body weight daily. For a person weighing 80kg, this is four tablespoons a day.

I weigh about 60kg so that means around 2.8 tbsp.

That’s quite a lot and I was concerned about the extra sugar in my diet. But if it could stop the itchy eyes and sneezing, I was happy to give it a go!

I bought a jar of Kentish honey from a farm shop near me. It wasn’t cheap, costing a whopping £8.45.

I started taking some in the morning with breakfast and stopped taking my antihistamines.

Quercetin is a flavonoid found in apples, onions and berries. It has anti-inflammatory and antihistamine-like effects

Dr Helen WallGP

I definitely loved having it in my porridge, but I’m not sure it had any effect.

The pollen count was exceptionally high on the week of the test and my itchy eyes and sneezing continued as normal.

I struggled to sleep because of it too and after seven days, I had to go back on the antihistamines as I looked as though I’d been crying.

I admit to being disappointed. I’d far rather have taken honey to ease my symptoms than medication. But it just didn’t do the job.

Scientists say local honey likely won’t help treat your itchy eyes[/caption]

DO ANY NATURAL REMEDIES WORK?

SO honey doesn’t work, but what else can you try?

Nasal irrigation is the “strongest contender” for a natural hay fever remedy, according to Dr Wall.

She says a saline rinse may flush out allergens and reduce congestion. As a treatment, it is safe and low risk.

But there are other options to try.

“Quercetin is a flavonoid found in apples, onions and berries,” Helen says.

“It has anti-inflammatory and antihistamine-like effects.

“Again there is limited evidence in humans but there have been some positive results in reducing nasal symptoms in particular, and these are foods which are good for you anyway.”

Some studies have also found spirulina (blue-green algae) may work as a treatment.

It’s thought to reduce allergic rhinitis symptoms and it’s an anti-inflammatory and an antioxidant.

A 2018 Chinese study also recommended acupuncture as an effective treatment, particularly for nasal congestion and sneezing.

UK weather: Thunderstorms, ‘frequent lightning & intense rain’ to hit TODAY as Met Office issues yellow warning

THUNDERSTORMS, gusty winds, heavy rain and “frequent lightning” are set to hit today – with the Met Office issuing a severe weather warning.

Parts of Britain will be lashed with up to 40mm of rain in just two hours, according to forecasts.

A yellow weather warning for thunderstorms comes into effect at 9am and lasts until 6pm.

The national weather agency said on X: “A wet day for a few.”

Forecasters said the weekend will bring frequent heavy showers – some thundery – with a chance of hail and strong winds.

The rainfall expected today could be more than England saw during the entire month of May.

Met Office data shows England recorded 32.8mm of rain last month – almost half the usual monthly average.

It is expected to cause travel chaos, with the forecaster adding there will “probably some damage to a few buildings and structures from lightning strikes”.

Householders have been warned of potential power cuts.

Dan Suri, chief meteorologist at the Met Office, said: “Frequent heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected for much of Saturday, before they fade from the west during the mid-to-late afternoon.

“It’s possible that 10-15mm of rain could fall in less than an hour, while some places could see 30-40mm of rain over several hours from successive showers and thunderstorms.

“Frequent lightning, hail and strong, gusty winds are also possible.”

He added: “While brisk winds ensure that most places in the warning area will be hit by showers, not all places will see thunderstorms.

“In this case it’s difficult to predict where exactly thunderstorms will hit because they are small and fast changing.

“One analogy we use to picture the complexity of this forecasting challenge is comparing it to boiling a pan of water and having to guess exactly where and when the bubbles will appear.

“We know some will, but only in certain places, and that is why thunderstorms are so hard to predict.”

Where is covered by the weather warning today?

  • East Midlands
  • East of England
  • London & South East England
  • South West England
  • Wales
  • West Midlands

Conditions are expected to improve on Sunday, with a drier day forecast for many, though showers may linger in parts of the north and east.

The Met Office forecast for tomorrow says: “Sunny spells and scattered showers, these heaviest and most frequent in the north.

“Turning cloudier from the northwest later with further showers outbreaks. Breezy for many and feeling rather cool.”

UK 5-day forecast

Today:

Widespread showers may be heavy, bringing a risk of hail and thunderstorms across England and Wales.

Heavy outbreaks in southern Scotland merge into longer spells of rain at times too.

Becoming gusty in passing showers, with occasional sunny spells too.

Tonight:

Daytime showers largely easing and clearing gradually eastwards, with clear spells developing overnight.

Breezy with a few showers arriving in the west by dawn, and feeling cooler than recent nights.

Sunday:

Sunny spells and scattered showers, these heaviest and most frequent in the north.

Turning cloudier from the northwest later with further showers outbreaks. Breezy for many and feeling rather cool.

Outlook for Monday to Wednesday:

Changeable with a mixture of sunshine, scattered showers and longer spells of rain this week.

Breezy and feeling cool at first, but temperatures on the rise by midweek.

Isabella, a young woman “on a hustle mission”, has made £10,470.65 on Vinted this year alone.

Not only this, but she still has the capacity to earn £3,199 extra thanks to the 873 items she currently has listed on the marketplace app.

Posting on social media, the mother uploaded a snap showing off a huge pile of her Vinted parcels, as she penned: “Top tips for selling on Vinted from someone who’s made over £10k this year.”

First things first, according to Isabella, you shouldn’t upload more than seven items a day on the app.

She advised: “Post four to seven items daily. Don’t post them all on the same day as they will then become lost.”

Secondly, she revealed her top tip for taking the best pictures, as she added: “Post your items on a plain background, e.g. white bedding or clean carpet.”

Additionally, Isabella revealed the exact number of days you should wait before re-listing items.

“If you still haven’t sold your item after seven days, delete the item and re-post,” she stressed.

Not only this, but Isabella warned against using supermarket bags to send out parcels, as she continued: “Use actual mailing bags rather than bin bags/Tesco bags.

“This will make you look more professional and your buyer will be more likely to return.”

But that’s not all, as Isabella also advised Vinted enthusiasts to offer bundle discounts, even if it’s only 5%, as she acknowledged: “This will make the buyer want to buy more.”

Not only should users take pictures of their items on a white background, but Isabella also stressed the magic number of pictures you must upload to every listing if you want to sell fast.

Do you need to pay tax on items sold on Vinted?

QUICK facts on tax from the team at Vinted...

  • The only time that an item might be taxable is if it sells for more than £6,000 and there is profit (sells for more than you paid for it). Even then, you can use your capital gains tax-free allowance of £3,000 to offset it.
  • Generally, only business sellers trading for profit (buying goods with the purpose of selling for more than they paid for them) might need to pay tax. Business sellers who trade for profit can use a tax-free allowance of £1,000, which has been in place since 2017.

She recommended: “Use natural lighting, good quality images and always show at least three images of the item.”

Finally, Isabella noted the importance of raking up five star reviews on the handy app, as she concluded: “Having good reviews is essential when selling on Vinted.

“[It] shows that you are reliable and the items are likely to be as described.”
