Manchester United return to Premier League action on Monday against Bournemouth with Matthijs de Ligt still missing from training.

The Netherlands international has arguably been United’s best player this season but has now missed the last two games. His club have not disclosed the nature of the injury with Ruben Amorim offering no indication when he will be available again.

De Ligt was not seen in training on Thursday with Harry Maguire also still missing from the group. The former captain has not played since the 2-2 draw with Tottenham in early November due to a hamstring issue.

Amorim will provide an update on his two defenders when he speaks to the media on Friday but both will be considered doubts ahead of the visit of the Cherries.

Benjamin Sesko has also not featured since limping off late on in that 2-2 draw in north London with a knee injury.

The former RB Leipzig star has returned to light training on grass with suggestions he could even make the squad on Monday evening. That would loosely fit the timeline Amorim provided last month having been hopeful his striker would be back around the time other key personnel are departing for the Africa Cup of Nations.

But Sesko was not seen during Thursday’s session with United perhaps opting to take their time with his reintroduction to the side.

Elsewhere, United hope to have Amad Diallo, Bryan Mbeumo and Noussair Mazraoui available before they depart for AFCON, with the trio training with the group today.

While there is still no confirmation, United have been in talks with the respective federations of Ivory Coast, Cameroon and Morocco to keep the trio for one more game. Had United failed in that bid, they would have released them for international duty already.

Shea Lacey has been on the United bench for the last four games and could get his chance when Amad and Mbeumo do depart.

Man Utd XI to face Bournemouth – Metro prediction

Plenty will rest on the final decision on Amad, Mbeumo and Mazraoui but if all three are available they will surely start on Monday.

Mason Mount’s excellent performance against Wolves should ensure he starts again. Amorim could opt for the same starting XI that got the job done at Molineux although he may be tempted to bring Lisandro Martinez in for his first start since February should he feel the need the rest Luke Shaw.

Manchester United vs Wolves kicks off at 8pm on Monday 15 December.

Eurovision 2024 winner Nemo has announced they will be ‘sending back their trophy’ after Israel was permitted to compete in next year’s contest.

The Swiss singer, 26, won the contest with their song The Code, becoming the first openly non-binary musician to win the contest, and the third winner representing Switzerland.

However they’ve now announced they will be returning the trophy to the EBU headquarters in Geneva.

In a statement posted on Instagram, the performer wrote: ‘Last year I won Eurovision and with it I was awarded the trophy.

‘And even though I’m immensely grateful for the community around this contest and everything this experience has taught me both as a person and artist, today I no longer feels this trophy belongs on my shelf.’

More to come…
