How five men stole £4.75m toilet from Blenheim Palace in just five minutes

AS bathroom breaks go, it was a quickie. Five men took just five minutes to steal a £4.75million solid gold toilet from Blenheim Palace, the Oxfordshire birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill.

The gang smashed their way into the stately home with sledge- hammers in the early hours.

Their goal was the 98kg 18-carat gold lavatory, an installation by conceptual artist Maurizio Cattelan called America that was installed in the palace just a week earlier.

The masked raiders ripped the working WC from the wall, causing water to cascade from cut pipes, then rolled it out of the palace and into a waiting VW Golf getaway car.

But within ten days of the audacious raid on September 14, 2019, police were being told the name of the man believed to be responsible: James ‘Jimmy’ Sheen.

Detective Superintendent Bruce Riddell said “community intelligence” — code for being ratted out — provided Sheen’s name.

The head of specialist operations at Thames Valley Police added: “He went to hospital the day after for an injury to his hand, which we think he got from going through the window.

“And as the investigations unfolded, thousands of the evidence exhibits were linked to him.

“On his phones we found voice messages of him trying to sell the gold.

“Then we found traces of gold in his pockets, and in a flatbed lorry there was a pair of gloves containing fragments of the gold and his DNA.”

‘Evidence overwhelming’

The career criminal — a member of the traveller community — will have another four years to think about where his heist has landed him, added to the 19 years he is already doing inside.

Jailing him at Oxford Crown Court yesterday, Judge Ian Pringle blasted: “This bold and brazen heist took no more than five-and-a-half minutes to complete. ‘America’ has never been seen again.”

Sheen was out of jail on licence when he planned the Blenheim raid.

He had received 14 years in 2010 when an innocent couple got caught in the spray from a shotgun during a shoot-out in Coventry with a rival traveller clan.

Builder Sheen, 40, ran a burglary gang from his slick end-of-terrace home on an Oxford council estate.

They broke into the National Horseracing Museum in Newmarket in May 2020, making off with the Ascot Gold Vase and two Doncaster cups, and stole tractors and other farm equipment, making an estimated £2.6million within a year.

Sheen also conned elderly customers out of hundreds of thousands of pounds for dodgy building work.

Yesterday Oxford Crown Court heard how Sheen’s burglaries had grown more bold.

His lawyer, Michael Neofytou, described the raid as “crude”, adding: “It didn’t have the hallmarks of a sophisticated heist.”

The burglary leader pleaded guilty to conspiracy to burgle.

The evidence against James Sheen was so overwhelming he had no choice but to plead guilty.

Det Supt Riddell

Co-defendant Michael Jones, 39, who had worked for Sheen’s building company, was locked up for 27 months for helping plan the raid.

The roofer — first convicted at the age of 13 — was found guilty in March of burglary.

Yesterday, a judge said he wasn’t satisfied Jones was one of the five masked men who actually took the golden loo.

He had denied that a visit to see the sparkly toilet the day before it was stolen was a reconnaissance trip, and described the experience of using it for real as “splendid”.

Sheen and four others smashed through two locked gates in a pair of stolen cars.

They then broke a side window and splintered two more doors before prising the 18-carat loo from the wall.

Sheen’s DNA was found on one of the hammers that was left behind.

Red-faced palace bosses admitted that the exhibit — which had been installed at Blenheim days earlier — was not covered by CCTV.

Chief executive Dominic Hare later told the BBC: “We took possession of this precious item and managed to lose it within a day.”

Cops found a mountain of dodgy messages on Sheen’s phone.

Two days after the raid, as he was laid up in hospital having an operation on an infected hand, Sheen texted gold dealer pal Fred Doe: “I got something right up your path.”

The pair tried to flog the loot in London’s Hatton Garden area.

Det Supt Riddell said: “The evidence against James Sheen was so overwhelming he had no choice but to plead guilty.”

None of the gold has ever been recovered — but cops believe the toilet was broken up between the five thieves.

Prosecutors say Sheen had tried to sell the gold to Bora Guccuk, a boyfriend of glam Instagram model Chloe Othen, but the deal collapsed.

Hatton Garden jeweller Guccuk, 41, was cleared of money laundering in March.

Doe, 36, was found guilty but spared jail last month for his part in trying to sell on the metal.

Sheen’s WhatsApps suggest he pawned his share in Birmingham, pocketing £520,000.

Det Supt Bruce Riddell is now focusing on recouping Sheen’s ill-gotten gains.

He said: “Trading Standards have already identified almost £200,000 worth of assets that they’re in the process of recovering.”

The seasoned cop is also trying to bring the three other members of the five-strong heist gang to justice.

He appealed for anyone with information about the outstanding raiders to come forward, adding: “Relationships and allegiances change over the years.”

On tonight’s episode, the Islanders admitted they could hear a “banging” sound during the night.

Remell spilled the beans after the girls had left the bedroom and told the lads: “We didn’t do that, but we were dry humping, I ain’t going to lie.”

The boys burst out laughing at Remell’s X-rated confession.

While Alima also made her own admission to the girls, saying: “Remell was lipsing me left, right and centre.”

ITV2 viewers were left open-mouthed by Remell vountarily sharing details about his sex life AGAIN.

One wrote: “Oh, wow. I’ve heard enough. First Remell w/ the unprovoked info: sex w/ five people in one night. Trying to overlook it for Alima’s sake cause he’s her only option only for him to say to the boys after their first night in bed, we were dry humping. Are you alright????”

A second posted: “First night sharing a bed you’re dry humping?? Alima where is your class.”

A third commented: “Why did they need to know you were dry humping?”

“God the men you put on this earth are talking about dry humping on national TV,” a fourth said.

Another added: “Why would Remell tell them they were dry humping???? I want better for Alima. This guy is not it.”

This is not the first time that viewers have slammed Remell for his remarks.

On Wednesday, the Islanders gather to play truth or dare and he was asked to reveal a secret about himself.

Remell then casually said: “The most people I’ve slept with in a night is five.”

His new co-stars were visibly stunned by the revelation and viewers at home rushed to comment.

One wrote on social media: “Remell why did you choose to disclose that??? Men are so weird.”

Someone else said: “Remell you should’ve taken that secret to the grave.”

Another wrote: “Remell five in one night is just greedy and nasty.”

And a fourth added: “Remell was definitely boasting with that 5 girls in a night revelation and that backfired massively. What a child.”

Matheus Cunha wants to be Man Utd’s new Wayne Rooney after watching legend on TV every week at his grandma’s house

MATHEUS CUNHA hopes he can bring the spirit of Wayne Rooney back to Manchester United.

The £62.5million Brazilian new boy admitted he has always idolised the Red Devils team which won the Champions League back in 2008.

Cunha watched Manchester United win the Champions League in 2008[/caption]

That was around the time United became Cunha’s favourite club.

He watched them every week on the television at his grandma’s before going outside and playing on his own version of Old Trafford.

And of all the star names in Sir Alex Ferguson’s squad back then, it was former England captain Roo who stood out the most for the boy from Brazil.

Cunha, 26, saw some qualities in his new club’s 253-goal all-time leading scorer that he could relate to — and hopes he can bring to the modern-day squad.

The former Wolves and Atletico Madrid forward said: “I remember the whole squad at the time that I started to watch.

“I liked Rooney at the front. Wow! He is someone I have a lot of similar things in my game, as I always give everything.

“He was the No. 10, I remember it on his shirt and everyone loved the skills of the player — but he always brought more.

“He would slide tackle to try to take the ball, this kind of energy inside of him was a big example.”

It may be 17 years ago but Cunha can still name most of the players who helped United overcome Chelsea 6-5 on penalties in Moscow after the Champions League final finished 1-1 after extra-time.

He said: “Of course, I can mention a lot of the players.

“Cristiano Ronaldo — everyone knows him, it is easy to talk about him. But Ryan Giggs as well.

“I can imagine the team now — it started with Edwin van der Sar in the goal, Rio Ferdinand with Nemanja Vidic the defenders. Paul Scholes, wow, Michael Carrick.

“That team had a big impact on my teenage years.”

Cunha’s performances at Molineux and his 17 goals for Wolves last season made him one of the hottest properties in the Premier League this summer.

United might be a hard sell to some players after the dismal season they have just endured.

There will be no European football next term after they limped home in 15th place with just 42 points — their lowest-ever total in Premier League history.

But after following the club since he was a boy growing up in Joao Pessoa the chance to put on the famous red shirt at the real Theatre of Dreams was an opportunity he could not turn down.

Cunha added: “Maybe outside people don’t understand my decision.

“But when you have always dreamed to play here, it’s easier to come to this decision.

Matheus Cunha's 2024-25 Wolves season statistics. Illustration of Man Utd player wages in 2025.

“It’s hard to explain but for me, no one else is like United.

“I know it’s been a hard season for everyone, so my decision shows what this club is to me and what I believe this club can be.”

Recalling how he first fell in love with the Red Devils, he revealed: “My house didn’t have the channel to watch the Premier League and my cousin’s house didn’t have it either.

“He’s older than me and supports United — he showed me the way to start watching the Premier League and the need to support United. We could only watch the Premier League at my grandma’s house, so we organised to go every weekend.

“When we played together in the street, on the beach, on the gravel, we called those pitches Old Trafford.

“So, wow, it’s so hard to be here now thinking about the past — it’s very emotional for me.

“It’s the most common phrase you can say in this moment but yeah, it’s a dream come true for me.

“It’s my dream team, the team for me.”

In 2017 Cunha hoped his wish of one day playing for the Red Devils was about to come true when he competed against them for Coritiba in the youth team tournament the Dallas Cup.

He said: “One of the directors at Coritiba said a director from United had asked about me.

“I was so excited, imagining a dream when I go to United — but after that the conversations stopped.

“But I think this was the start of my journey. Playing against United was a dream. Wow!”

Eight years later, he has finally got his wish and Cunha believes it is coming at the perfect time for him.

And part of the move is down to manager Amorim who Cunha admitted helped convince him to make the switch.

He said: “I have a lot of faith in him. I hope he succeeds in conquering the world like he did in Portugal.

“I’m here to help the team and help him. All our discussions made my decision easier.”

There have been flashpoints during his 2½ seasons at Molineux — which started with a five-month loan spell in January 2023 — but now is the time to relax, knowing he has realised his ambition.

He added: “It’s the perfect time to come here and now I need to be calm. I’ve learned from my mistakes.

“There is not one player who does not come here and think about the glory days, all the times they won the Premier League.

“I want to put this club on top and do everything to help them conquer these things.”

Ange Postecoglou ‘lined up for very lucrative managerial return’ just days after being sacked by Tottenham

ANGE POSTECOGLOU has been targeted for a lucrative return to management in Saudi Arabia, according to reports.

The Aussie, 59, was brutally shown the door by Daniel Levy just 16 days after ending Tottenham’s 17-year trophy drought with their Europa League triumph over Manchester United.

Ange Postecoglou has been lined up with a lucrative return to management

SunSport exclusively revealed that Postecoglou was being sounded out by clubs in Europe days after his dismissal following a dismal Premier League season.

And now the riches of Saudi Arabia are keeping tabs on Postecoglou, with Pro League runners-up Al-Ahli eyeing a potential replacement for Matthias Jaissle.

Al-Ahli are understood to be looking at Postecoglou as a possible target should highly rated German coach Jaissle leave for RB Leipzig this summer.

Jaissle led the club to an AFC Champions League triumph in May when they defeated Kawasaki Frontale in the final, with a team featuring Ivan Toney, Roberto Firmino, Riyad Mahrez and Edouard Mendy.

The 37-year-old has now been tipped to return to Europe and was previously linked with the West Ham job before Graham Potter’s appointment.

Al-Ahli reportedly pay the Jaissle £9.6million-a-year, which would make him the third highest paid manager in the Premier League.

Postecoglou received a £5million payoff from Spurs after his sacking, along with a £2million bonus for winning the Europa League and qualification for next season’s Champions League in Bilbao.

He has previously worked in Asia when he was at Yokohama F Marinos in Japan and won the J1 League prior to winning the title with Celtic.

He was sacked at Spurs exactly two years after his appointment, with the Aussie delivering on his promise of winning a trophy in his second season.

Spurs players paid tribute to Postecoglou following his sacking, with captain Son Heung-min leading the way on social media.

Centre-back Van de Ven also branded his brutal axing as a “strange decision” while away on international duty with the Netherlands this week.

Postecoglou left Spurs having won 47 of his 101 matches in all competitions, but did lose a staggering 34 of his 76 Premier League games.

Brit & US spy planes high-tail it out of Gulf amid fears of Iran reprisals over Israel’s missile and drone blitz

A TRIO of British and US spy planes high-tailed it out of the Gulf amid fears of Iran reprisals over Israel’s missile and drone blitz.

An RAF Rivet Joint plane and two US Rivet Joints scrambled at dawn from Al Udeid airbase in Qatar.

They all flew back to Europe.

The planes are packed with spy sensors for hoovering up signals intelligence and the can monitor air defence radars – providing valuable battlefield intelligence.

All three planes left Qatar between 4am and 5am local time – as Israel announced it had attacked Iran.

Flight records show the US planes had spent weeks taking turns, on alternate days, to patrol Iran’s coast.

The RAF jet spent three and a half weeks at the same US Air Base but the UK crew switched off their transponder so there is no publicly available flight data.

An RAF source claimed the plane was there support the Royal Navy’s aircraft carrier strike group, which is sailing through the region.

UK defen The UK’s Rivet Joint jets are flown by RAF pilots but mostly crewed by government code-breakers from the GCHQ listening post.

The RAF source said the UK spy plane was not involved in Iran operations.

They claimed return to base yesterday was “a coincidence”.

Any intelligence collected by the RAF’s three Rivet Joints is automatically shared with America.

A source said Britain would have been unable to stop America sharing intelligence from British flights with Israel if the Pentagon chose to do so.

One of the RAF’s three Rivet Joints was nearly shot down by Russia over the Black Sea three years ago.

The planes, based at RAF Waddington, Lincs, have been spying on Russia’s defences in southern Ukraine and occupied Crimea.

FINDING the perfect name for your baby can be quite the challenge.

Do you stick with something traditional, or take the risky route with something more unique.

The unique names left people scratching their heads

Well, more people are opting for unusual names than you might think, at least according to this Australian healthcare worker.

She recently took to TikTok to reveal some of the most bizarre names she’s encounter as part of her job.

In the viral clip, she explained she’ll often discuss some more unusual names with her co-worker, especially those of young people.

According to the healthcare worker, one strange yet popular names she came across was ABCDE, which is apparently pronounced ‘Absidee’.

“We also had a young girl that we came across. I thought her name was pronounced Leah because it was spelled L E – A.

“You actually pronounce the hyphen as a dash, so it was pronounced Ladasha,” she shared in the video.

And spelling is a whole other issue, she added, as she explained there was recently a girl who had the name “S, H, I, hyphen, T, H, E, A, D,”

“It was pronounced Shatheed, but they had essentially named their child S*******, and they thought it was hysterical,” she claimed in the clip.

But those aren’t the only unusual names to cause a stir online, as one mum revealed she wanted to name her little one after a mode of transport.

owever, one mum has opted to name her son after a mode of transport.

Taking to Reddit, the mum-to-be’s concerned cousin revealed that she was desperate to talk her out of the unusual name.

She said: “I just got invited to the shower for my cousin’s baby, and she’s naming the baby…

“Trucklyn.

“No one is saying anything in the group chat about the fact that they’re going to name this baby Trucklyn.

“I think I have to go to the baby shower to try and get them to change it, or at least figure out why.”

The cousin added that she had tried to figure out if the name was a joke, but had so far been unsuccessful.

Reddit users flooded the comments section with their thoughts, with many critical of the unique moniker.

One person said: “It is your duty to try to convince them to change the name.

“Be like… ‘oh for her first Halloween she can be a Monstertruck!’, just to really let it settle in.”

A second person said: “Poor kid wont stand a chance.”

A third person said: “Is that part of the naming your kid after the place where it was conceived trend, but for poor people who can’t afford to go to Paris?”

A fourth joked: “So when she gets sick, does she go to the doctor or the mechanic?”

Banned Names in the UK

The UK has no law restricting names, but names that contain obscenities, numerals, misleading titles, or are impossible to pronounce are likely to be rejected when registering a child.
