HBO Max is making changes to its catalog as 2025 comes to a close. Later this week, the streaming platform will add Leonardo DiCaprio’s latest hit movie to its library.
One Battle After Another, which was directed by Paul Thomas Anderson and stars DiCaprio, Sean Penn, Benicio del Toro and others, officially has an HBO Max due date. The film has earned strong reviews since premiering in theaters back in September.
When will ‘One Battle After Another’ be on HBO Max?
One Battle After Another will make its exclusive global streaming debut on HBO Max on Friday, December 19, Warner Bros. announced on Monday.
The film will then be available on HBO linear on Saturday, December 20 starting at 8 p.m. ET.
What is ‘One Battle After Another’ about?
The black comedy film documents the story of Bob Ferguson, a former revolutionary played by DiCaprio, who must return to his past lifestyle after an old foe reemerges.
“Washed-up revolutionary Bob (DiCaprio) exists in a state of stoned paranoia, surviving off-grid with his spirited, self-reliant daughter, Willa (Chase Infiniti),” the Warner Bros. press release says. “When his evil nemesis (Penn) resurfaces after 16 years and she goes missing, the former radical scrambles to find her, father and daughter both battling the consequences of his past.”
Besides DiCaprio, Penn, Infiniti and del Toro, One Battle After Another also features Teyana Taylor, Regina Hall, Tony Goldwyn, Wood Harris and Alana Haim in key roles.
What kind of ratings does ‘One Battle After Another’ have?
While not quite a box office success–it has grossed more than $200 million worldwide, but less than its $300 million goal–One Battle After Another has largely earned positive reviews from experts and moviegoers alike.
The movie is “Certified Fresh” on Rotten Tomatoes, with an overall approval rating of 95%. It also has a 95 rating on Metacritic, putting it in “Universal Acclaim” territory, as well as a 7.9/10 score on IMDB.
Additionally, One Battle After Anotheris up for 14 Critics Choice Awards and has nine nominations for the Golden Globes.
