With Season 1 of the popular Hulu series Chad Powers now in the books, the million-dollar question becomes about a potential renewal for Season 2. The show, featuring Glen Powell, who plays Chad Powers, a made-up persona to allow his real character, Russ Holliday attempt a college football comeback. Holliday, an arrogant and self-centered former college star who blew the national championship, decides to use some prosthetics and a wig while hoping to find a fresh start.
The show’s debut season drew higher praise from fans than critics, and many who watched Season 1 of Chad Powers have already sounded off on social media about a desire for an encore. Based on the comments from creator Michael Waldron and a few of the show’s co-stars, if Season 2 does come to fruition, there’s plenty to be excited about.
‘Chad Powers’ Creator Michael Waldron Teases Plan for Season 2
Waldron has been a busy man following the Season 1 finale of Chad Powers, and unsurprisingly, one of the most popular questions he’s answered is about a potential Season 2. However, during a conversation with Collider, Waldron was asked whether he knew where Season 2 could go, and the answer didn’t disappoint, with the creator dropping a Breaking Bad outlook.
“We certainly had an idea of at least where the show would go and maybe where it would end,” Waldron said. “The best shows tend to have a sense of their ending point, as early on as possible. I know what we want to do with Season 2.”
“Like any good show built around a lie, like Breaking Bad, Season 2 would be about the walls closing in on our guys. The fun is getting in there and writing yourself into a corner.”
While watching Powell’s character play out the underdog comeback story in Chad Powers, it’s hard to argue that seeing how things unfold with the “walls closing in” on him wouldn’t make for high-level entertainment.
For good measure, Waldron also spoke to Collider about the connection between Chad and Ricky (played by Perry Mattfeld), and admitted that their relationship would be a key aspect of Season 2. Waldron called the two characters “the true heart” of the show.
To your question, that’s the job of Season 2. Can he ever win her back? To me, the show is a romantic comedy, and maybe it comes into focus there. Chad and Ricky are, in many ways, the true heart of this thing. The exciting thing about keeping the show going is, how’s it going to work out between them?
