The Great British Bake Off fans have been left in hysterics after a contestant’s melted cake resembled a ‘puddle’.
Last night’s episode saw Toby, Aaron, Tom and Jasmine battle it out for a place in the final as temperatures soared in the iconic tent.
But following a ‘ridiculously hard’ technical challenge for Patisserie Week, set by judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith, Toby was sent packing after his ’embarrassing’ attempt to produce a framboisier cake.
Taking to social media, fans hailed the ‘car crash’ technical, with @lisa7514 writing: ‘Poor Toby .. it looks like a pond 😂😂 #GBBO’
@xo_xoncejnl also wrote: ‘Toby’s cake looks like Shrek has thrown up on his plate #bakeoff’

@WriterofQueen added: ‘Not Toby’s cake and flower sliding off the cake stand #gbbo.’
Meanwhile, @cosmicsubject argued: ‘That technical was an embarrassment !! #GBBO’
Despite Toby’s disastrous technical, which the judges described as still tasting nice, things were still tight between him and Aaron and Tom.
Jasmine, however, picked up a record-equalling fifth star baker as she eased through to the final.
Commenting on X, many fans felt that Toby was ‘robbed’ after his impressive lemon macaron showstopper.
@kevwgs said: ‘The nation’s favourite. Very unlucky Toby. You’ve been brilliant to watch. #GBBO’
@finucy added: ‘That was the most emotional exit on #GBBO I’ve ever watched. Really liked Toby – think he was a little more deserving of being in the final than Aaron or Tom.’
@smallstepforsam also wrote: ‘WHAT!! I was so convinced Toby had redeemed himself #GBBO #BakeOff.’
Following his exit, an emotional Toby said: ‘I made it a tough decision for them they said so that is good. The best thing about this tent is the other people.’
Prue and Paul also explained how it was the ‘toughest decision’ they have had to make all series so far.
Alongside making a framboisier cake, the semi-finalists made cream horns, glass domes and macarons for their showstoppers.
The Great British Bake Off final will air next Tuesday at 8pm on Channel 4.
