Up until recently, Emmerdale’s Ruby Miligan (Beth Cordingly) has been preoccupied with looking after illegal immigrant Anya (Alia Al-Shabibi), who showed up at the depot in the back of one of Caleb Miligan’s (William Ash) vans.
While Caleb was adamant that Anya needed to be taken to the police, Ruby was determined to house her and protect her, even against her husband’s wishes.
Her care for the young woman drove a wedge between the two, particularly when Caleb left two grand in a drawer to entice Anya to leave with the cash, and she did.
Ruby was furious, partly because her pet project was gone, but now she’s looking for the next venture to occupy her mind – she has no idea yet that poor Anya is dead and buried.
Ever the independent woman, Ruby moves on with thoughts of a new business, a wine business.
After a few drinks Ruby decides that her next move is to import wine, and with Manpreet Sharma (Rebecca Sarker) in on the conversation, she gives Ruby an idea to get rid of the surplus.
But her plan is not a sound one. She simultaneously struggles to sell the wine and irks both Jai Sharma (Chris Bisson) and Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) for competing with them without a licence.
Charity is more of an old hand at this game than Ruby and decides if she can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em, offering Ruby a deal she almost can’t refuse. But there’s more to Ruby’s sudden win than meets the eye…

Her failing wine business might not be her biggest worry in coming weeks.
Viewers think Ruby could be the one to discover Anya’s body after Bear Wolf (Joshua Richards) tied the ribbon she wore around her wrist to a nearby tree after burying her.
Before anya disappeared, Ruby had grown close to her, even sharing a moment where the ribbon featured. Will Ruby spot the ribbon and blow things wide open?
