The cheapest UK supermarket for Christmas dinner in 2025 has been named – and its slim prices will allow you to get your festive hands on pigs in blankets, turkey, and all the trimmings without breaking the bank.
Asda has taken the crown for the most affordable traditional retailer this Yuletide season, with a festive basket coming in 3.4% cheaper than Tesco, 11.6% cheaper than Sainsbury’s, and 10.3% cheaper than Morrisons.
According to a new study that analysed 33 Christmas foodie items, including turkey and trimmings, mince pie and Champagne, Asda reached the accolade without relying on loyalty programme offers, which competitors like Tesco and Sainsbury’s use to dock prices for members.
Asda’s basket totalled £81.98, with Asda’s Own Label Frozen Turkey Crown coming in at a very affordable £11.75 – while choices like Waitrose see the festive beast priced anywhere between £30 and £100.
The supermarket took the crown for both the cheapest budget and premium festive baskets, according to The Grocer’s findings, with a bougier basket coming in at £137.76.
Meanwhile, Sainsbury’s came in second place with an offering of £145.66, while Morrisons charged £150.75 and Tesco £151.26.
‘We know Christmas is a special time for families, but it can also put a huge strain on household budgets,’ said Rachel Eyre, ASDA’s SVP chief customer officer.
‘Across our ranges, The Grocer’s results show that Asda is helping to ease this burden by offering customers great choice, quality and value. These surveys show that families can pick up everything they need at Asda this Christmas at the lowest prices, with or without a loyalty card.’
Asda isn’t the only one keeping prices low. As part of a promotional period, Lidl is slashing the cost of its festive trimmings between December 19 and Christmas Eve.
During this time, a family of eight will be able to do themselves a festive spread for £12, with all the trimmings totalling just under £1.50 per head.
There’s no doubting that there are some absolute savings to be made, as a whole turkey will cost £2.95 per kilo (or £9 for a 3.5kg bird), while most of the vegetable offerings will be discounted to just 8p a pop.
Plus, there’ll be 15 Yorkshire puddings on offer for 46p, a packet of stuffing will set you back 45p, and 300g of gravy totals £1.09.
