Coldplay have just wrapped their lengthy Music of the Spheres tour (for now) and frontman Chris Martin is almost ready to say goodbye.
He previously announced the Fix You icons would only release 12 albums together, with 10 released so far, including 2024’s Moon Music.
Chris, 48, doubled down on retirement plans recently — even though the band then reportedly teased more dates for their current tour in 2027.
It seems he might be trying to stretch out that 12 album rule for at least a few more years, but is ‘getting there’ when it comes to letting go.
‘I’m trying to let go of everything, but I still love my job,’ he’s quoted as saying in The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column.
‘I love it and maybe that’s not good. I love all of it, even all of the nonsense. I’m so grateful.’

Chris continued: ‘I love our band, I love what we do, I love the songs that come through, I love where we get to go, I love the view of the world that it gives us.
‘We see the thing that connects humans more than most people see. I love it. So maybe that means I’m attached to it.
‘I need to let go of feeling like I need that and just be able to appreciate it when it’s there – not to be attached to needing it. I’d like to just want it.’
He confirmed to NME that their next album is set to be in the form of an animated musical but that may delay its release until after album 12.
The final album will simply be called Coldplay, but he’s already preparing for that to be released ‘a year late’.
Coldplay promised they will still tour after this and work on projects together but there will be no more studio albums.

Chris hinted their future could lie away from the stadiums they’re currently on, returning to ‘small things’ that help support younger artists.
Throughout his career, the Speed of Sound singer has often been a champion of rising stars and known for his philanthropic work within music.
However, bandmate Guy Berryman isn’t so convinced of Coldplay’s retirement as he told the outlet that Chris will always be writing music.
He added: ‘I think you have to have a plan. If you’re running a marathon, you know you have to run 26 miles. But if somebody said to you, “OK, start running and just don’t stop”, it’s quite hard to motivate yourself.’
It seems that the finish line keeps moving though, as while on stage at their supposed last show, Chris made a special announcement.

Videos appeared on social media of Chris speaking on stage at Wembley, announcing that the tour ‘still has 138 dates left to go’ but the band would be taking a break.
The Music of the Spheres tour actually began in 2022, promoting their ninth studio album of the same name.
The frontman shared that they would ‘announce the dates for 2027 very soon’ but a formal announcement is yet to come from the band.
