Everyone in Hollywood seems to have Frankenstein on the brain as another adaptation has just dropped its teaser trailer — this time it’s The Bride!
Maggie Gyllenhaal’s reimaging of Mary Shelley’s premise draws inspiration from James Whale’s 1935 film Bride of Frankenstein.
Fans were already excited after seeing early images of Christian Bale and Jessie Buckley on set, transformed into the two ‘reinvigorated’ Bonnie and Clyde-esque leads.
The 51-year-old Bruce Wayne actor looked utterly unrecognisable with his iconic sewn-together forehead.
Any sticklers for the 1818 source material should be warned that the monster is called Frankenstein in this, while his creator is Dr. Euphonious.
Now that the trailer has dropped, The Bride! is being branded the ‘monster movie of the year’, even though it’s not out until 2026.

Dramatic revelations, violent outbursts and the looming question on the bride’s lips of ‘what’s my name’ — it promises to be a gritty 1930s horror delight.
‘Oh this is gonna be good,’ praised Niklander3 on X as Warner Bros shared the teaser with the tag line ‘There’s a monster inside us all’.
Supermangeek101 enthused: ‘The Bride! is my most anticipated monster movie of next year! So excited to see Christian Bale! He’s gonna be so phenomenal as Frankenstein! So excited to see Jessie Buckley as The Bride Of Frankenstein! Jake Gyllenhaal is gonna be amazing! This movie is gonna be worth the wait!’
‘It’s a great time to be alive for a horror girlie,’ added m_stormwitch as elhumodetuboca said: ‘Here comes my new obsession!!!’
‘Guillermo [Del Toro] can keep his Frankenstein movie. I’ll be over here with this,’ added will_chadwick, poking fun at another Frankenstein film about to drop.

The Del Toro adaptation is due to arrive on Netflix on November 7, after a short run in select cinemas from October 17.
Our film reporter Tori Brazier gave Frankenstein four stars after watching it at Venice Film Festival, calling it ‘vibrant, dramatic and macabre’.
While they may be compared, the films won’t be fighting for box office space as The Bride! is set to be released in March 2026 — missing the Halloween audience.
The Bride looks to be a very different take on the classic, diving into female bodily autonomy as Jessie’s titular bride ignites a ‘radical social movement’.
Joining the duo is an impressive line-up, including director Maggie’s brother Jake Gyllenhaal, Julianne Hough, Penélope Cruz, Peter Sarsgaard, and Annette Bening.
