What is Plan Mexico?
This is an ambitious economic strategy and its objective is to strengthen the internal market to face global challenges and trade tensions such as those recently experienced with the United States Government, with the recent arrival of President Donald Trump.
This approach includes 18 programs and actions aimed at guaranteeing equitable and sustainable economic development, with emphasis on poverty reduction, job creation and national self-sufficiency.
Point number 6 of this action route, referring to the automotive industry, plans to strengthen and expand national manufacturing for the domestic vehicle market, strengthening innovation, research and development, as well as energy efficiency, with the objective that most of the vehicles consumed in Mexico are manufactured in the country.
In the framework of a meeting with member countries of the World Economic Forum, the head of the federal Executive said in the National Palace on October 8, that Plan Mexico “has the objective of producing more in Mexico, for the internal market and also for exports. Strengthening the internal market, increasing food sovereignty, increasing energy sovereignty and strengthening public and private investment.”
In this sense, the strategy includes meeting with foreign business representatives from various productive sectors, including the automotive industry. The Coordinator of the Regional Economic Development and Relocation Advisory Council, Altagracia Gómez Sierra, said in an interview with the media that companies of all types will come to the country to learn about Plan Mexico and encourage opportunities for development and economic growth.
“Pharmaceutical companies are coming, important logistics companies are coming, agribusiness companies are coming, tourism companies are coming, financial companies are coming, really all kinds of companies are coming,” he said.
