The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup is only a few days away, with the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City battling to win in the USA.
The tournament kicks-off in the USA on Sunday as Al Ahly take on Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami but it would be fair to say that players, clubs and fans aren’t entirely sold on the revamped and expanded competition.
In order to ensure it succeeds, FIFA have broken the bank – literally – with the total prize pot they are offering standing at a staggering $1billion (that’s roughly £739million).
But how exactly will this be split between all 32 teams competing? We break down the Club World Cup prize money and how it compares to other competitions like the Champions League:
How much prize money do the Club World Cup winners get?

According to FIFA, of the $1bn prize pot, $475m (£350m) will be distributed to clubs depending on how they perform at the tournament.
The eventual champions’ reward will depend on their performance in the group stage but the maximum they can win is a cool £86.4m.
But they stand to gain more than that as the majority of the prize pot has already been handed out as a participation fee, the amount of which depends on what confederation they come from.
Oceania’s sole representative Auckland City is getting £2.6m, while clubs from Africa, Asia and North American will get £7m each.
The South American sides get £11.2m but the figure varies for European teams depending on ‘sporting and commercial criteria’, with the lowest ranked getting £9.4m and the highest £28.2m.

If we assume that Chelsea and Manchester City fall into the latter category, they could leave the USA with over £114million – roughly the equivalent to one Florian Wirtz.
Additionally, the winning club will get to wear the special, gold Club World Cup badge on their shirts until the next edition of the competition in 2029 and of course they’ll lift the brand new trophy.
How does the Club World Cup prize money compare to the Champions League?
The total prize pot for the Club World Cup may seem big but it’s only about a third of the £2bn on offer in the UEFA Champions League.
That said, the winner of the UCL stands to receive less than the CWC victors, with the former earning up to £102.3m, depending on results.
The 2024/25 Champions League winners PSG would have received upwards of £95m after struggling to get through the league phase.
In any case, the figures dwarf how much Liverpool received in prize money for winning the Premier League last season (£56.4m) and Crystal Palace’s reward for lifting their first FA Cup in May (£3.91m).
Additionally, Argentina received £32m for winning the 2022 World Cup.
